If you want to expand your network so you've got switches in a few key spots where extra devices are desired plus add phone and security camera functionality while isolating IoT devices onto a segmented and firewalled network and building traffic profiles for all of those devices and ensuring network uptime with redundant paths while preventing packet storms, the prosumer level gear will let you do that. It's got a pretty full suite of network functionality - maybe not as great as the biggest vendors on their latest platforms, but it's pretty full.

I'm interesting in buying a router and a couple of WAP's to go with my 1Gb network.

My question is should I be buying a commercial router like a Ubiquity Dream Machine Pro or a Gaming specific router like the Asus GT-AXE11000?

Are gaming routers a scam?

.and if they did, I can't find the documentation on how to set it up.)  After issuing a support ticket, where I was told to just change the LAN IP range, which didn't work, and wouldn't having been a solution anyway, I'm giving up and returning the UMD Pro.  Ultimately, it lacks the ability to have a separate management IP address (or even change it), which would allow you to continue to use the Ubiquiti Site CloudKey Network Application's current configuration with the UMD Pro

 All of those are easily configured to suit your existing network. Keep that in mind as you read on..

  What a disappointment.  For what it's worth: I've attempted to find the product manager to determine that they might have on the road map to fix this, but Ubiquiti makes that more than a little difficult as well. Not to mention that almost all of their development happens in the Ukraine and Latvia, making it even more difficult.

The Dream Machine Pro has serious flaws and is not ready for Prime Time

4x4 MIMO vs 2x2 makes a pretty big difference. The UDM Pro is a decent option - it can handle 10G fiber, can be your UniFi controller, has an 8 port switch (not super high performance, but good enough to plug a few home automation hubs and other low end clients into, and getting a bigger switch for other stuff), plus it can run Protect if you want some security cameras down the road.

I am planning a home network in my house. Nothing too special, I'm currently using edgerouter X + unifi ap lite + netgear gc108p

I decided that I will leave edgerouter X and the AP in the flat and take only the switch to my new house. 

I'm currently keeping an eye on APs: Netgear WAC564-100EUS and ubiquity AP U6. Which of these would be better spec wise? Any other recommendations? 

As for the router, I need something capable of handling fiber, but edgerouter X SFP seems good enough to manage it, doesn't it? Or should I reconsider my choice?

What are some decent access points right now?

I'm going to be moving to a new area in the next 6 weeks, and the area in which I'll be moving has a municipal fiber internet available. They have a 2 Gbps tier that I'll be going with, but then I realized that my router only has 1 Gbps ethernet ports on the back. 

I've been browsing routers in the $200-$300 range from Asus, Netgear, etc, and haven't been able to find a single one that has ethernet ports on the back that supports bandwidth faster than 1 Gbps. 

It's been about 5 years since I've purchased a router, and I guess I'm a little surprised that many mid to high level routers only seem to have gigabit ethernet ports. 

Does anyone have any suggestions for a router that supports faster wired bandwidths?

Not a Pro Product, Marketing Fluff!

I've had a UDM-Pro since they were available in the Early Access store and it has been buggy in general. If I were you'd I stay away from it since PPPoE is even more of a buggy mess on it from what I've read.

I'm moving to a new house in a few weeks and confirmed that the 3Gbps/3Gbps service offered by my ISP is the same price as the 1/1 service, so I'd like to take advantage of the 3/3. I have a few devices (NAS/Server/PC) that support 2.5/5Gbps networking.

 In the past I have used a Fiber to 1Gig CAT6 Media Convertor right into my router (ASUS AX88U) bypassing the ISP (Bell Canada-PPPoE) HomeHub 3000 modem entirely. I understand their new modem does not have a removable SFP+ but does have a 10Gig RJ45 port and allows me to set it up for PPPoE passthrough. 

I know the easiest thing to do would be to use the Bell device as my router and connect the 10Gig port to an old Dell switch with a few 10Gig ports on it (I do have access to an old 24-port w/ 4x 10Gig SFP+ ports). I'd love to keep my ASUS AX88U as the router as it's relatively new and I like the ease of use and customization but I understand with a lack of 10Gig WAN that probably isn't possible.

I'm not really familiar with prosumer networking equipment but I do keep coming across the UDM-Pro as a suggestion. Using this I'd just throw the ASUS router into AP mode and use it for WIFI only. I've read that the UDM-Pro does have some hiccups when it comes to PPPoE performance so was hoping for some input on other options.
