Should I get it?If you're looking for a portable drive with a lot of storage space, the WD My Passport is a solid option, especially with a suggested retail price ranging from $60 to $160 for 1TB to 4TB, respectively. (You can expect the street price to be lower, and pricing for Australia and UK is not available at this time but that directly converts to a starting price of about AU$79 or £49.) If you intend to have multiple drives and use the colors as a way to categorize your data, it's definitely a great choice

Just got this cheap usb hub/ethernet adapter and it works perfectly with the Mi Box S, the internet connection is full 100Mbit, the ports support my 2TB WD Passport HD (plays 4k Bluray Rips without stuttering in Kodi), and a wireless keyboard, with one slot free for another USB stick for quick transfers.

Unless you need a ruggedized drive to stand up to rough treatment, the WD My Passport checks off all the right boxes for an external portable hard drive. Its performance is on par with the competition; the built-in hardware encryption and bundled utilities enhance its usability; and it doesn't hurt that it looks good, too.

It’s more like 30-40 MB/s tops. Mechanical hard drives like the WD Passport typically write around 100-120 MB/s. I recommend connecting the drive directly to your Mac. The drive should be formatted as APFS if using a recent version of macOS or HFS+ if using a older version pre-High Sierra/Mojave.

I had the exact same problem with my WD My Passport drive, getting error message 49244. Hopefully, you have a backup of your external drive because the only solution that I eventually discovered was to reformat the WD drive as an APFS drive. I never saw anything from Apple that said that was a requirement for external drives to work with operating systems after Catalina. But apparently, that is the case.
