Sorry in advance. I know this question is everywhere and everyone gets sick of seeing it, but I would greatly appreciate any sort of suggestions or closure on this.

I’m in a 4 piece cover band, play rock/pop at pubs and private events, between 20-200 people. And we want to upgrade our PA system.

Something to note, which is affecting my decision and making me second guess myself all the time, is that all our members are moving away to study in a different city next year. So I’m not sure how much use they’ll get next year.

However, I will be studying sound engineering, so I assume they might be handy for things beyond this band 

I’m tossing up between 4 options… I think, I’m open to suggestions though. 

EV ZLX-12 powered ($829AUD each)
Yamaha Dxr 12 ($1099AUD each)
Yamaha Dzr 12 ($1679AUD each)
Qsc k12.2 ($1699AUD)

If we went for either of the cheaper 2 options, we’d be able to get a sub straight away as well. I’d need more time to save to buy a sub if sub if we chose the  more expensive options

PA opinions

Bass response is definitely good for speakers of this size, but most of the low-end bass that you "feel" is lacking. I purchased a Yamaha DXS12 subwoofer to pair with these speakers and increase the amount of low frequency my system can put out.

Excellent speakers! I haven't had a chance to try these at full volume yet, but they are exceptionally clear and crisp at the (loud) medium levels. It's great to have a built-in 3 channel mixer (1x XLR/Microphone, 1x 1/4 TRS, and 1x RCA [stereo pair]) for cases where simple setup is needed.

Buy these

For tops I’d look at Yamaha DXR12 or EV EKX12. Both are affordable, nice sounding boxes. Don’t get the fancy padded covers - they’re a waste of money - but at least get the cheap Gator padded speaker bags or something similar to protect them.

I run a nonprofit that presents small- to medium-sized concerts in a variety of settings. We're interested in having a PA backline of our own for small shows/events where we aren't hiring for sound. I'm a competent self-taught sound tech, so I can set up and run a show just fine, but I don't have the industry knowledge for what specs are needed and what brands are the best bet.

Requesting people's recommendations for a good balance of price/reliability for the following setup:

* Need amplification for small outdoor events or medium-sized indoor events. Music is generally acoustic/electric jazz, stretching to soul/R&amp;B in one direction and other acoustic music in the other.
* We can't really handle transporting or storing subs; I figure that I'm looking for two stand-mounted tops.
* In addition to the tops, I would want to get three monitor wedges. Small is okay.
* Need at least eight mic pres on the board, but ideally would have 16. Board can be analog or digital, but bonus points for digital with multi-track recording.

**MY QUESTIONS:**

* I assume individually powered speakers is the way to go, but is that true?
* Should I consider used gear?
* What wattage should I be looking at for the tops? Speaker size?
* Brands?

This speaker is worth the money. The highest volume I tried inside the house was not even 1/4 of the knob. The quality of the sound was superb. I just bought this for home use and is way more than enough but I’m already thinking of getting a 2nd one to pair

Sound quality and plenty of power

In order from best to cheapest, These I can recommend:. QSC K12.2 / Yamaha DXR12 \~ $800 Super reliable and quite loud with very accurate sound reproduction.

I play midi mallets and now I have a speaker which if I put a microphone or phone to record its sound, the audio distorts at the recording, or it clips when its loud. It is the typical PA speaker kit with microphone, bluetooth, cheap, around 80-120W.

So I'd like to get a good sounding speaker for this purpose, record the sounds with a microphone next to it, good quality, deepness...

As said I'm playing midi, (logic/mainstage) so I use lots of instruments as vibraphone (with lots of effects), marimba, sitar, electric guitar, etc. So, do I need a stronger PA, or a keyboard amplifier?

I know there may be a difference between playing live and recording speakers. In that case, I'd choose record, since bigger venues will have already some PA, and I can get along in smaller venues with a recording speaker, right?

Speaker to record live and play live

I've owned QSC KW153's, KW122's and KW181's, Yamaha DSR112's and DXR12's and JBL PRX715's and PRX718XLF's when it comes to powered speakers. These sound so damn good, get crazy loud and go much lower than you expect.

Any educational video out there explaining things in an ELI5 kind of way. 
How to set the EQ and others on the 12Ds?
