Pour-over lovers and tea brewers alike will appreciate the Bonavita 1.0L for its variety of presets and capable performance. In addition, this well-designed and sleek-looking gooseneck offers a controlled and balanced pour. The handle design provides extra stability and a  comfortable grip that allows you to easily manipulate your pour speed. Beyond the pour, the Bonavita base has a screen displaying the current temperature and offers a built-in timer for dialing in that perfect pour-over coffee. And for tea drinkers, the temperature controls allow for heat adjustments in 1º increments to brew different tea varietals adequately. 
Overall, we're very impressed with this kettle's performance, but we observed a few shortcomings. For example, the Bonavita lacks an audible alert indicating when you reach your desired water temperature. Also, compared to other models in the review, this one takes the longest to reach the desired temperature at maximum fill capacity. However, when filled with only 3.5 cups of water instead of 4, the boiling speed is significantly faster &mdash; by a whopping two minutes. Also, we noted temperature discrepancies in the "keep warm" feature, which kept the temperature stable at 4 degrees lower than the selected preset. These flaws may not matter for brewing at home but can be potentially frustrating for high-volume service. Despite these limitations, the merits of the Bonavita far outweigh its flaws.

 I was careful to leave the plastic cover on it after the first base broke (which is gross and ugly) but it didn’t seem to work. I’m not that rough with my things, I haven’t broken all of my other appliances and my china! Now I have a Cosori gooseneck with preset temps which is great and hasn’t broken yet.   It comes with a thin, translucent, PE cover for the base to protect it during "frequent use". Seriously? You mean that this kettle base wasn't made to handle the inevitable splash of water, and so I have to keep it covered with this ugly plastic cover that looks like I left the packing material on?  The 1 liter max fill level line is stamped on the inside, and while not a big deal, is not easy to see.  Sometimes when heating up, it seems to slow down to a crawl as it approaches the target temperature.  The base feels like a thin piece of plastic

  The one liter capacity is more than enough to do a pourover for two 8oz cups.  What I don't like:  The build quality is questionable.  While the goose neck spout appears to be braised or welded to the body of the kettle (it seems pretty sturdy), it was attached crooked (c'mon, seriously?).  The curved bend of the spout is showing a kink in one spot

  It only requires a handful of button presses to input the target temperature.  The cord keeper in the base is handy, and built so you can adjust how much cord extends out of the base.  The digital readout is bright, very legible, and nicely angled.  The buttons are tactile, and click slightly when you press them

 The surface is rough enough where I could file my nails on it.  The black heating element cover that is attached at the base of the kettle is not seated evenly.  The logo is printed as opposed to being stamped into the metal, and I fully expect it to wear off (this could be a good thing).  The steps to follow (button presses) to set the temperature are easy enough, but I have to press the power button each time I return the kettle to its base

  Likes: Form factor - this is probably the best-looking electric how water kettle on the market. We had just finished a kitchen remodel when we got this, and I didn't want an ugly kettle sitting out on the counter.  Simplicity - I don't want a water kettle that I need an app to control. It feels lazy for the manufacturers not to think through all the uses and build the functionality directly into the kettle

 Combine this with the tight fit, and when you pull it off, it flings hot water all over the place. They could mitigate this by sloping the bottom of the lid so the moisture would drip off.  The hold function - I expect the hold function to keep the temperature that I set. But the hold function holds the temperature of the water in the kettle

 I expect the spout to help control the flow of water but not restrict it. Even after two years, I still end up tipping the kettle too far and spilling water out of the lid when trying to make tea because I'm not sure if it's going slow due to it being almost empty or just the spout restriction.  Wish it had: Two temperature presets - I know there is a Bluetooth version with more functionality, but I don't need another app and don't want to pull out my phone just to control the water kettle. I would love to have two simple presets I can manage

Review after years of use

 For a kettle that costs $170 it’s a real disappointment. Fellows could have spent a couple dollars more on parts and had a much better product.  The Stagg kettle was a kickstarter project started in 2013-2014. The kettle I received was produced in Feb 2019, so it was a couple years old and probably part of the first gen design

 The same can’t be said of the base though. The base is very light and flimsy and the switches on the back that set Celsius vs. Fahrenheit temp display, and hold vs sleep functions, are really, really cheap. The dial where you set the water temperature and turn the kettle on and off is also very cheap feeling too—and will probably be the first thing to break on this kettle

 Why didn't they bother to plug this whole with a piece of wood or at the very least color the screw so it's not such a glaring wound? I'm probably being fussy but then this kettle was a lot of dollars.. Secondly.

  The product does heat quickly, so if you like smelling plastic right before you pour yourself a cup of tea, this one is great.

This kettle is beautiful. Unfortunately, the one that I purchased did not heat water to the correct temperature. In fact, it was off by about 5-7 degrees each time I did a test. I used a candy thermometer and a digital instant read thermometer

 Further, I measured the temperature in a ceramic mug and in a plastic measuring beaker. My tests were not laboratory tests but I wanted to rule out user error on my part. In addition to the temperature being too low, I noticed that it didn’t take long out of the kettle for the water to start cooling.
