The bag holds a fair amount of gear, is great for strapping a jacket onto, and is super comfortable to wear. The ventilation on the back is fantastic, and the weight distribution is one of the best I've felt. I use this primarily for hiking, with a smaller Dakine for mtb.

  Nonetheless, I didn't have time to return it so I jerry-rigged a fix by tying and safety pinning the strap into place and took the bag to Europe for my two-week trip. I'll list some of the best and worst parts of the bag.  Pros: -carry-on compliment -expandable storage is great -pockets everywhere -tons of robust straps on all sides to carry and move the bag -expandable water bottle holders so you can fit a bottle even at capacity -ridged and comfortable back -super high-quality materials and zippers -expandable front pouch for more storage after capacity -exceptionally rugged and waterproof -concelable straps and magnets everywhere -definitely a good looking bag!  Cons -while the main straps are great, the backpacking chest and waist straps are far from comfortable, I think they value looks over functionality here - so if you're going to be wearing this 24/7 make sure you're aware of that -no interior straps for compacting clothes like other travel backpacks -while the materials are amazing, they are heavier and add some weight - my bag was easily heavier than my brother's osprey bag which was significantly lighter at capacity -for me, receiving a previously returned item while paying full price  In the end, I really had a good experience traveling with this bag because of the great functionality while looking good at the same time. If I didn't receive a defective and previously returned unit, I would have considered this a buy that would've lasted me a lifetime

 So If you have things strategically positioned in here,, unzip that from the side, grab what you need. This is especially handy for the camera cube insert. Keeps Your camera Easy to grab, easy access. One Last feature to notice here is that all the zippers on this are lockable with O-rings and they come with some additional securing features as well

 That's really great for getting the pack into side access mode while you're wearing it, as well as hiding the strap system, which we'll get into in a second. The Straps themselves offer some high-density foam, definitely comfortable here. More comfortable than the Peak Design Everyday Backpack; So just note that they've definitely improved upon that system that they had going on with the previous pack. And Then they also feature aluminum glide hardware on the straps themselves,, which are good

 Onto Some of the cons.: The zipper choice really puzzles us. The sternum strap comes off little bit more easily than we'd like to see. And Lastly, the side hails provide a bit of a funky, imbalanced carry

Peak Design Travel Backpack Review | 30-45L Pack Perfect For One Bag Travel

 When you put it on and you attach it to both sides. if there's weight in the bag, which there will be, that's why you're using the sternum strap, then the straps kind of roll in which gives you a slightly annoying feeling and a slightly uncomfortable feeling. It has gotten better the longer I've used the bag and the longer I've had it, but it is still something to keep in mind. Same with the hip straps

 You can buy the camera cube for it, which essentially turns the whole thing into a camera backpack if you want to, and again, if you want to, you can buy the rain fly for it. So in terms of quick access, you have one pocket on the front here, one smaller pocket which is about big enough for I don't know, a pair of sunglasses, a couple of small things. Your main quick access is going to be in here at the top. There is one pocket on the back here and one pocket on the front

 It's going to stand up to a lot. If you're throwing it in and out of taxis you're taking to airports buses, then it's It's going to stand up to the punishment that you want to give it. On top of that, these solid materials and this slightly heavier weight mean that it's going to hold its shape. It's going to hold its shape even when it's empty

 But if I was to, uh, use one word to describe it that would be over engineered, significantly over engineered. I can't help thinking about systems like the uh, the Tortuga set out which has these great massive straps which are just straight up easy to use heavy duty long distance hauling straps. These feel a little bit more like form over function. I would have liked them to be a little bit more padded

Long Term REVIEW | Peak Design 45L Travel Backpack | IS IT COMFORTABLE? | Good for daily carry?

 There is however, an elephant in the room that should be a deal breaker for every sane traveler - this bag is unforgivably uncomfortable to carry; and as that is the core function of a travel bag, I struggle to understand why so many people just gloss over it. It’s brilliant, amazing, oh and it’s a brick that carry’s like someone loaded 70kg into a Kanken and made you carry it. No amount of awesome design and fabulous ergonomics can cover it up - it’s big, heavy and completely over priced.

Uncomfortable, heavy but beautiful to look at

- This is a heavy bag. I had to meet some tight weight restrictions for the airline carryon bags, and this bag did not help in that regard.

- The lash straps are super handy. I used them to lash an extra coat to the outside of the pack.

Many great features, but heavy on shoulders

I've also tried the Peak Design Travel backpack - no good, way too big to be a hiking / day pack and not robust enought to check in for me. Also tried packing a standard hiking pack in my main bag, but this takes up a lot of room, as well as offering no Photography based integrated features. If you guys have any thoughts on the above bags, or any suggestions at all that would be greatly appreciated. I'm driving myself around the bend trying to find this perfect bag that I'm afraid doesn't exist

 Use the front access to get into what we call the organization panel in here. You've got a handful of separately zippered pockets and these pockets back here actually upside so you can get to them from the front or the back. You'll notice that a few of these pockets have perforated mesh which allows you to see what's actually in there. and this pocket up here has internal organization

 so using a single cable lock, you can actually lock that access to the main volume. I'm going to move my zippers to the top for both the back access and the front access. Then he's one of these puppies. You get a cable lock in any travel store just on the Internet Whoops! Open it up, feed it through the rings of your zipper and coupled with hiding your side zips, you've now effectively locked access to the main volume of the bag

 The main new zipper have the same theft-deterrent zipper poles that are everyday backpacks have you unattach the hype. One run it through the ring on the opposite sipper and then reattach because the zips travel together. Pulling on one will not open it up. To recap, nobody's getting in the front, nobody's getting in the side and no one's getting in the back

 Just like on our everyday backpacks, the travel backpack has dual side access so you can get into the bag when it's on your body or if you just want to open it up and get to a specific part of the bag Side access really shines with our separately available camera cubes, which you can click on the link for that somewhere around this video. So Travel Backpack also has front access. Use the front access to get into what we call the organization panel in here. You've got a handful of separately zippered pockets and these pockets back here actually upside so you can get to them from the front or the back

 But I'm here to tell you that just at least in my experience, I just have too many things that annoy me with this bag and it just never. I don't know. The biggest annoyance is the the clamshell thing because it gets all you have it on your bed and it's all floppy and then you're putting stuff in it and then you're just kind of trying to stretch it to get that zipper around. And yeah, I'm sorry

 You've got buttons that sort of snap this thing into place a little tough. There we go, and that sort of makes it a little slimmer of a profile. So that way you don't, kind of like always, look like you've got this giant bag on your back and then you've got the main zipper compartment where you've got all of your travel action. Here is a laptop place to put your laptop

 You don't know what the hell you're talking about. Get off Youtube already. But I'm here to tell you that just at least in my experience, I just have too many things that annoy me with this bag and it just never. I don't know

 I've got some. I've got some gum in mine, but you've got some internal storage here that you can just sort of slip and hide things. So why, After several years of using this and for that matter all these awesome sounding features, Why am I getting rid of this bag? So it starts with the actually, I'm going to go ahead and just start with my main complaint altogether. and this was a complaint that I had with the Mystery Ranch Duffel alongside with a couple of other travel backpacks that we reviewed, but I hate bags that open with the clamshell top method

 So honestly, I think this is one major design flaw in the peak design 45 liter although I think it is also outweighed by the streamlined design and all the other clever little touches that are included in it. First, one of the coolest things is that you can expand it from a default 35 litre to a 45 liter size and I think this makes it perfect for both shorter and longer trips. Let's take a quick look at the compartments. On the front is a travel organizer which has four zip pouches inside, two of which can also be accessed from the main compartment

 What happened on my first trip with this backpack and went to Rome I Had two bags with me so I checked this one in although it's carry-on size in this case I Checked it in and saw the backpacker returned from the conveyor belt without it my sternum strap. So what happened I think was that I left it on one side and that's just not enough to keep it in place if you check in this bag. I Do highly recommend taking off the stern strap and putting it inside your backpack where it is safe. Fortunately, peak design does have placement straps available, so I got a new one, but it was a little bit annoying

 But here's the thing. You can also detach it and that of course makes it really easy to lose.
