I've also tried the Peak Design Travel backpack - no good, way too big to be a hiking / day pack and not robust enought to check in for me. Also tried packing a standard hiking pack in my main bag, but this takes up a lot of room, as well as offering no Photography based integrated features. If you guys have any thoughts on the above bags, or any suggestions at all that would be greatly appreciated. I'm driving myself around the bend trying to find this perfect bag that I'm afraid doesn't exist

Here is why I bought the pack: It felt the best on my back. Like it was an extension of my back rather than just hanging on there. It also fits a bear canister (bear vault 500) horizontal, which makes a huge difference in the comfort in carrying one of those monsters.

My only complaints would be the back panel and chest strap. The back panel wasn't as breathable as I would have liked. My back got a bit sweaty after walking ~10 minutes from the train to my airbnb. The chest strap also dug into my sternum and would leave a mark so I ended up unbuckling it a lot of the time, although this might just be a personal problem since I have a small chest
