 Unfortunately, there's no padding in the flap, though so, for protection. I'D, recommend, storing your laptop in a padded sleeve first before then slipping that into the backpack. Also note that for rear access to the camera gear, the laptop section is positioned at the front of the backpack furthest from your back when carrying it. Now that's no problem if you're also carrying a load of camera gear, but on the occasions when you don't have an icu inside the laptop can become the heaviest item and cause the pack to feel a little bit unbalanced, but to be fair

 Eventually saw one of the main zips fail, but this was after five years of almost constant abuse. A modern backpack should of course accommodate a laptop, and the guru ul has an internal sleeve, that's big enough for a slim, 15 inch or a chunky 13 inch model. Pluses: holds a lot, carries a 17" laptop, 3 locking compartments, load levelling straps really work well, sternum strap is movable! Minuses: hip pad, shoulder pads could be better (very good but not great), mesh back would vent off sweat

Great travel backpack

 Plus, the Osprey is unable to stand upright on its own (due to not having a flat bottom) and the Tortuga can. Thus, making it easy to put the bag down on the floor when not carrying it.  -comfortable carry-on bag that is designed as a minimal backpack. Can be incognito from budget airlines and can blend into a crowd of people in a city without looking like a tourist

 Though the Osprey had a better harness/waist strap system, but for the size of bag, the Tortuga's removable waist straps works just fine. Most times I don't even use the waist straps unless I know I will be walking for over 20+ minutes. Plus, the Osprey is unable to stand upright on its own (due to not having a flat bottom) and the Tortuga can. Thus, making it easy to put the bag down on the floor when not carrying it

I was torn between this and the Osprey Farpoint 40L. After trying both of them out, the Tortuga won. Though the Osprey had a better harness/waist strap system, but for the size of bag, the Tortuga's removable waist straps works just fine. Most times I don't even use the waist straps unless I know I will be walking for over 20+ minutes

Best Travel Backpack

 Bag was comfortable and secure, travelled well around the city and doesn’t seem as big as it is. Highly recommend for travelers who want a lot of room but don’t want to check a bag. If you don’t have inserts of your own you might want to buy them to help maintain shape structure but overall highly recommended.

I took the 45L bag from the US to Rio and back as a carry-on bag. No issues from the airlines and I had the bag full to max weight with equipment and clothing. Bag was comfortable and secure, travelled well around the city and doesn’t seem as big as it is. Highly recommend for travelers who want a lot of room but don’t want to check a bag
