At roughly half the price of other high-end knives, the Kershaw Leek packs a pedigreed blade into a compact, assisted-opening tool. The blade is made of high-grade steel and comes sharp from the factory. Like the Mini-Barrage's assisted opening, the Leek can be opened with either thumb and can be locked closed. Kershaw has also engineered a tab on the blade's rear that allows you to deploy the blade with your index finger. The blade and handle hold up well for handy carry and light to moderate use. 
The narrow handle profile is the primary compromise with the Leek. Compared to the Mini-Barrage, the Leek is similar in many dimensions, but both the blade and the handle are thinner. Some users will appreciate the lower profile for carrying, though edge and handle thinness requires tradeoffs. The thin blade is excellent for soft and light cutting but can deform in heavy use. We had this happen early in testing. The slim handle doesn't comfortably support heavy pushing. Still, this is a beautiful and functional knife; quality steel at a steal.

 Welcome to KnifeHQ, BladeHQ's YouTube channel. Today we're taking a look at an oldie but a goodie.

 This is the Kershaw Spring Assisted Leak. This knife has been around so long that my mother

 actually gave me one of these for Christmas. Before there was even a BladeHQ, I hadn't started

 BladeHQ yet. I got a Rainbow Leak, loved that knife. That is how timeless this knife is.

 It's been around since before BladeHQ existed. So that is a testament to this design by Ken

 Onion. Hi Ken, by the way, over in Hawaii with your hot wife. Great job on this.

 Anyway, so here's a skinny on the Kershaw Leak. This has the 14C2 8N stainless steel blade. The

 body on this knife is 410 stainless steel. It's a frame lock, which is kind of nice. I like frame

 locks. And then this has Kershaw's patented SpeedSafe technology. So you close the knife,

 you give the flipper a push, knife takes over, opens up the blade. It is spring assisted.

 It also has the ambidextrous thumb stud. You can open it with either hand. Pocket clip, reversible.

 Tip up, tip down. Not front or back, but tip up, tip down. And this also has a safety here on the

 bottom. So you slide this over and then that locks there on top of the blade and the knife

 cannot be opened. Specs on the Leak. Overall, it's seven inches. Blade length on this is three

 inches. Close length, four inches. Handle thickness, super thin by the way, 0.32 inches.

 And then the weight on the Kershaw Leak is three ounces. Grade knife comes in a lot of different

 styles too. This is the 1660. So this is the plain silver, plain blade. Also have black here.

 This is CKT, 1660 CKT. They come in a bunch of different colors too. They did a smoke series a

 while back. Some companies actually add inserts or do stonework on the handles of these. A lot

I had a Kershaw leek i had lost the safety on and i always preferred to carry it tip up. One time out hunting the blade had opened up in my pocket. Unknowingly reached in to get a bullet and the blade went straight under my fingernail.

 It comes in many different variants, different handle colors, different blade finishes. It is very popular, and it is what I would consider a gateway knife to the EDC community for many people. So moving on to the design. This has a wharncliffe style blade that is hollow ground

9 centimeters. The blade length is right at 3 inches, that's 7.6 centimeters. The closed length is right at 4 inches, that's 10

 This was designed in 2002 by Kent Onion, and it actually won overall Knife of the Year at a blade show, and that was with that Rainbow PBD finish. I'm not sure if you guys remember that, but Kershaw used to have a lot of knives with that rainbow finish. This was not the first knife with the SpeedSafe technology, but it has definitely popularized it. So this is what I would consider an iconic knife for sure

Kershaw Leek Review - 1660OR

 In this video, I'm going to be reviewing the Kershaw Leak, and I'm going to tell you why you should or shouldn't buy it.

 Hey everyone, it's Wes Newman with The Pocket Perspective, where we do gear reviews on things like wallets, watches, knives, flashlights,

 and any other cool stuff you can put on your person or in your pocket.

 In this review of the Kershaw Leak, I'm going to be covering the specs, history, design,

 followed by a quick summary, and I'm going to tell you why you should or shouldn't buy the knife.

 Starting off with the specs, the overall length is right at 7 inches, that's 17.9 centimeters.

 The blade length is right at 3 inches, that's 7.6 centimeters.

 The closed length is right at 4 inches, that's 10.2 centimeters, so it is 734 right on the money.

 The weight is reported to be 2.4 ounces or 68 grams, and that's really going to depend on the variant.

 There's a lot of different variants of these, and mine's coming in right at 2.57 ounces,

 and so it's a little bit heavier than what was reported on the specs.

 The blade thickness is 0.09 inches, so it's fairly slender stock, that's 2.29 millimeters.

 The handle thickness is 0.31 inches or 8.08 millimeters, so it's also a fairly thin overall

 handle. The blade type is a worn cliff, and it is hollow ground. It is opened via a flipper or a

 thumb stud, so it's dual action, and it's utilizing the SpeedSafe technology from Kershaw.

 The steel is 14C28N, and the handle on this particular model is aluminum, and that is going

 to vary depending on which variant that you get. The lock type for this one is a liner lock,

 but they also have this in a frame lock variety. The clip position is tip up or tip down,

 right side only, and this is made in the USA. The MSRP on this particular model is $89,

 $89, but you can find them for just under $50 from retailers.

 Moving on to the history of the knife. This was designed in 2002 by Kent Onion,
