Our pick for the best Windows laptop under $300 is the Acer Aspire 5 15 (2020). It's an older model from 2020, which is why the price is much lower than when it was first released, so it's a good time to grab one. It's still a little over $300, but it's worth spending a bit more as it's a well-built laptop with decent performance. This configuration has a 15.6-inch 1080p display, an Intel Core i3-1005G1 CPU, 4GB of memory, and 128GB of storage.

The display gives you plenty of room for multitasking and gets bright enough for use in most indoor settings. It has a full-size keyboard with a Numpad on the right, which is great if you work with lots of numbers, and it feels comfortable to type on for extended periods. The Intel Core i3 CPU has no problems handling everyday tasks like web browsing, text processing, and video playback. However, 4GB of memory isn't much for a Windows machine, meaning you'll see stutters and slowdowns if you have too many things running simultaneously. Battery life is the weakest point, as it only lasts about seven hours of light use, so you'll have to plug it in at some point to get through a typical 8-hour day.

Loaded with "Crapware" But the screen is better than Macbook Retina display

9 x 0.7 inches. Students should note that while the Aspire isn’t terribly heavy, its breadth makes it a bit of a chore to fit in a standard-sized backpack alongside a load of books and binders.  

        Acer says the Aspire 5 is for “a range of customers who want to get the most bang for their buck.”

This Aspire 5 model has a four-core Intel Core i5-1035G1, the same budget- and midrange-oriented processor that powers Microsoft’s Surface Laptop Go. Performance-wise, it gets the job done — but its battery life is disastrous, and its integrated graphics are behind the times at this point. My advice: if you can get your hands on one, buy the AMD model with a six-core AMD Ryzen 5 4500U for the same price instead.

 Mainly I need one for programme  Autodesk Inventor, I don't really play that much anymore, but it would be nice if it could run some games smoothly (like Witcher 3, Dark Souls 3...), who knows, maybe I will start playing games again

 My 3-year old Acer with SSD is still going strong… and quite fast. I can’t imagine ever going back to a main drive HDD.  – RAM: Upgraded to 20 GB with a 16GB RAM stick from Amazon/Crucial (took 10 days to receive it during holiday season) – it now shows 20GB in Windows System, although the first startup time took nearly 30 seconds to get started, causing no small amount of concern. But after the first time, now it starts up in maybe 3-5 seconds from Power Off

)  – Value: This is a good value, but there is competition in the marketplace. Hopefully Acer’s popularity will keep them making good products with *good* service. -- The next 10th gen Intel i5 processors do not appear to have any large speed increase over this 8th gen to justify their cost increase so maybe this unit will be a workhorse for more than 5 years from now. As support for Windows 7 goes away, this should be a good long-term replacement for a broad range of users… except high-end game players or heavy graphics users

Cheap laptop to play minecraft

 The upgrade was easy to perform. The SSD lets my compiles scream along as fast as any machine I've ever used (disk IO is usually the bottleneck for code development, the SSD fixes this if I keep my code on the C: drive.) .  The SSD waaaaay too small to use this as a media machine is you don't add more space

Great laptop in most ways, the few flaws can be fixed.
