 So as you can see there, the design hasn't changed up much at all compared with the previous generation. It's 188 grams, this new Kindle Oasis 3, so relatively lightweight, but also it features this lovely ergonomic design, of course, just like the previous version, which means it's heavily weighted towards one particular edge, the edge which you clutch it in. And that just means it's a nice, comfortable fit. As you can see, it's just perfectly balanced, so really, really comfortable to clutch, even for extended periods

Amazon Kindle Oasis (2019) | Ultimate eReader?

Folks - I've been frugal all my life but at am a stage of life where I can afford larger purchases. For e.g. I've awaited buying a kindle oasis till the price drops but it's been 6 months and from time to time, I do miss having one. It's about $200 and when I look at my stock/equity portfolio, it literally changes and goes up and down 10 times of that maybe every 30 mins. The timing we have on our investments could yield or lose much more than a single item like a Kindle

I know you may be at a loss about what's the question here so here it is - have any of you felt a little bit different about frugality after staying frugal for a long time? I definitely want to teach my kids frugality because I think not being wasteful and saving for the future can only be a good thing. It also helps us be less materialistic and do good for our planet by consuming less

But for me personally, I don't feel that saving on the few items that I'd like to use in life is really going to make a dent on my overall net value or retirement savings at the end of the day

Re-thinking frugality

 I'll review that too.  Battery Life: Some people have complained about the battery life of the new Kindle Oasis. I'll say that the battery definitely doesn't last as long as a Paperwhite. My old Paperwhite's battery was still excellent, even at five years old

  Lastly, I want to comment about the Merlot Leather Cover that Amazon sells. This isn't a review on the cover, but a comment about how the design of the Oasis really makes it hard to design a decent cover. I debated on whether or not I should buy it or if it was even worth the price that Amazon wants for it- but decided to go for it considering that I'll probably keep this e-reader for five years or so before upgrading again. That said, I really don't like it because it doesn't fit the Oasis very well

 I liked the idea of the color-changing LEDs for nighttime reading plus the benefit of having it be waterproof for when I read at the beach. I placed my order and shipped my old Kindle back to Amazon.  I've been reading with my new Kindle for about two weeks, and my reactions have been mixed. In some ways, the Kindle Oasis is definitely an upgrade over my old Paperwhite

 I'll also make comments about how the Oasis compares against the current Paperwhite, which is likely a much better option for the vast majority of people seeking an e-reader. It should be noted that I also ordered Amazon's nice Merlot leather cover..

  The LEDs and Night Mode: This is perhaps the best upgrade between my old Paperwhite and the new Oasis. I often read before bed- and tend to do so with the lights off so that my wife can sleep. With my old Paperwhite, the blue-hue LEDs were not easy on my eyes when reading in the dark. That has all changed with the Oasis and it's night mode

  Overall, the Oasis is majorly overpriced given the experience of it. Its design is surprisingly useful and that together with autorotate and the wider screen is worth a premium but Amazon has taken advantage of us in the pricing of this unit. I would suggest the Paperwhite or at least wait for the price to drop at one of Amazon's promotions before you buy it. Better yet, get a low-cost Kindle and download the iOS app on your iPad

Good reading experience but overpriced and underperforms

 Mobile, and this is the Kindle Oasis review. Okay, the only other e-reader I've covered is the Kobo Aura One, and that's still my recommendation if you need a more open device that can easily read files like PDFs. But as I said in that review, Amazon's ecosystem is massive, so if you've already got a whole Kindle library at your fingertips, odds are you're staying under Amazon's roof. My favorite thing about the Oasis is the thing I least expected to like

 I have NEVER had a problem-free experience getting a new Kindle and trying to download my library. I have approx 1600 books and I just bought a 32gb Oasis.  Think of it as the Rolls Royce of e-readers. At least that's probably how Amazon wants to think of it. Now looking at the screen the Kindle Oasis has the largest screen of any of the Kindle devices coming in at seven inches. It also has the best lit screen because this device has 25 front facing LED lights to make sure that the entirety of the screen is evenly and well lit

 It retails for about $250 while the Kindle Paperwhite retails for $140 unless you purchase the Paperwhite Signature Edition which is a more premium version of the Paperwhite for $190 and then the entry level Kindle retails for $90. So as you can see there's quite a big gap in price between the three devices. Now moving on let's take a look at the design of the Oasis. Probably the first thing that you notice when you look at the Oasis is this kind of chunky rectangle on the back of the device

I've thought of buying a Remarkable or a Koba/Boox but Remarkables force you to sync files a lot and I think you have to manually load in files one by one on them. Does anyone know an e-reader with this feature?
