 I've got 10 hours and 43 minutes of runtime on our streaming video tests, which is good, but in general use You're looking at more like 6 hours of straight use, but that's going to depend on your display brightness what you're doing. Still, it's not bad, but something like a Sirs Chromebook 7:14 lasts a couple hours longer with similar specs. It does charge quickly though, getting you up to four hours on a 30-minute charge. And with USB C ports on both sides, you have more flexibility when you plug in

 It's more premium than we're used to seeing in the category. So usually a premium Chromebook is about four hundred five hundred dollars, and this one starts at eight hundred. So what exactly does it mean to be a premium? Chromebook Well, for starters, this one is made from magnesium alloy, so it's a nice lightweight but still sturdy build compared to those plastic cheap models that you're used to seeing. So on top of that, the magnesium alloy makes it really lightweight

 This is considered a premium Chromebook It's actually a two and one, and at $800 it's more premium per premium premium. er, just more premium. It's more premium than we're used to seeing in the category. So usually a premium Chromebook is about four hundred five hundred dollars, and this one starts at eight hundred

 Throw in the upgraded processor and it’s not surprising that this thing burns through juice pretty quickly. In a day of browsing with a combination of apps and Chrome tabs (running Twitter, Slack, Zoom, Gmail, Reddit, Docs, Sheets, and the like) I got about five hours to a charge (and I could hear the fan most of the time, though it wasn’t terribly loud). .. In my usage so far I notice the fan most when using Zoom, but not always even then. I call it a fair trade in return for what I perceive to be a much faster processor

 It's larger and feels better. It is a definite improvement. 3: Speed. OMG

I could on the 434 adjust the brightness up to 80 or 90% and get a usable comfortable image. On the 436, even at 100% brightness the screen was nearly unusable

Less ports, much dimmer screen, harder to read keyboard, more $ than 434...  :(

I managed to find mine at a huge discount on eBay, advertised as second hand but it came in its original box and feels untouched. If anyone's looking for a cheaper Chromebook I highly recommend a similar method of acquiring one. I think it's not uncommon for casual users to buy a Chromebook and then realise it can't do everything they were used to with Windows, so they end up on eBay cheap and barely used. I was able to snag this one from ebay

 That's £5 cheaper than a Lenovo Duet, and for what I understand to be a much worthier machine.

I was a little worried about not going for the i5 version (my original parameters were an i3 or i5 and 8gb of ram) but after research suggested to me that the performance difference was negligible for my purposes, and much cheaper, I bit the bullet. And I'm so glad I did.

2. Embrace the cheap. Yes, they're very low powered - but also very small and light, and the weak CPUs = long battery life.

What I'm coming to realize after much research is that the X series is not that much smaller than my T480s, and until the X280 they are actually *heavier*! So I'd actually have to spend quite a lot to get a used machine significantly smaller/lighter than what I have. After all that, maybe I've narrowed my choices down to:  

Since it's for casual use and travel, it should be small (easy to carry around/fits in my bag) and cheap (not a disaster if it gets lost/stolen). My first take on the choices:
