Asus Chromebook Flip C536

I'm loving this one so far. I'll again specify that my only other experience was with an ASUS C536 ([which I reviewed that I got new for $399 and will be returning. I was somewhat worried about "open box" devices, but this really feels new. Out of the 2 devices I've tried so far, this one is certainly the winner.

Except for its bulk and its weak webcam, it's one of the nicest Chromebooks we've tested and an impressive value..Its webcam makes you look bad, but the Asus Chromebook Flip CM5 is an otherwise excellent choice among big-screen, small-price convertibles

The Duet may be beloved, for its features to price ratio, and the Spin 713 sure was nice for its time, but there are newly released models out with 11th GEN CPUs, Ryzen APUs, USI stylus support, and other more modern advancements. Heck, the Asus C536 is on sale already for under $500, beating out the mid-range C434 mentioned in several areas, for less money.

- ASUS C536. - ASUS CX5400. Those seem to be the top picks in this general category and price for 2-in-1s. Galaxy Chromebook too (sorta), but I've crossed it off of my list when comparing it to other options.

The plastic on the palm rests are soft and the glass trackpad is top notch. I will say the touch screen glass feels oddly resistant to my finger swipes but that's not a deal breaker. Battery life is good too (well, better than the galaxy cb), but I'm always near a plug so longevity isn't an issue. All in all, I have to say I like my new Asus way over the Galaxy Chromebook because it simply functions better and won't singe my lap from an overheating processor.

But then they missed so many little things, that it makes this very disappointing. When this goes on sale (it retails for $560) this will be a great Chromebook for $400 or $450 and will give a heck of a bargain of performance. But for $560, these small flaws are too much.

I really like my Asus Chromebook Flip, but I suspect that by the time you're done enhancing the design you're getting into the laptop/high-end tablet price range. And I don't understand the market for the Pixel.I do think there's going to be a re-convergence between tablets and laptops even given the track record of convertibles but it's going to require a lot of thought and engineering and testing around specific use cases. (And I also understand why Apple might not be incented to drive things too hard in this direction. ).

Often use a small Asus Flip Chromebook but it doesn't really have enough memory and Asus doesn't seem much interested in that part of their line.Was seriously thinking of getting a new Apple MacBook if they refreshed it but that's no longer an option.I'm still waiting for the convergence to properly happen. One of my biggest issues is that none of the tablet/keyboard combos work nearly as well as a laptop for grabbing and banging away on my lap as is common at conferences.

I use my work MacBook for everything I couldn't or did not want to do on my phone.At some i began to feel like I needed an in betweeen device and a tablet which is essentially a bigger phone was not the answer. Enter the Asus chronebook flip. Its a thin 10 inch chromebook with a touchscreen that flips all the way around and becomes a tablet. It seems to fill that void.
