Asus ROG Strix SCAR 17

Extremely satisfied with the thermals and build quality especially the fan sound acoustics. I am extremely sensitive to high pitch fan noise / coil whine (already returned GE 76 , Strix Scar 17 and Legion 5 pro) and I am happy to say that this model does not have any of the above mentioned issues. I am not a regular gamer and only play Dota 2 occasionally and damn, I was able to play it at the highest settings possible for the first time in my life (coming from intel 4720hq + 960m). I will be using this machine for programming/productivity tasks mostly and I hope this will serve me for years to come.

If you need 32 gigs, just upgrade it later on. However, the Strix Scar, like the Strix G17 lacks a MUX Switch which means games are bottlenecked by Optimus when gaming on the laptop’s display. This reduces the potential performance of these laptops by as much as 7% in FPS in AAA games (versus using an external monitor connected to the USB-C display port).

Had a 2080 desktop and had to start traveling so I got myself a 2021 Asus ROG Strix Scar G17 with a QHD display and a 3080. The performance is pretty similar to that 2080 and it's a somewhat light machine (not slim and light but light enough that my back does not hurt while carrying it around) and it's great for both gaming and work. The 17" QHD display for this laptop is really good and I was really surprised on it's quality, I always disliked small displays (and 17" is pretty small for me) but I was really surprised when I used it and I didn't feel it as been small.

I also have the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 with 5900hx + rtx 3080 as my main gaming laptop. I wish Dell or Lenovo would come out with some good premium laptops with the 5900hx or hs such as XPS 17 etc. But until then this one is perfect with the keyboard set to a neutral color.

however, the scar 17 doesnt have a mux switch so this severely damages its performance in high fps games such as valorant or CSGO. id rather get the alienwares if i were you, but do note their battery life is WAYYYY worse (1-1.5 hr vs 7-8).
