BOSS METALZONE - WORST DISTORTION PEDAL EVER?

I've been playing my acoustic guitar for six years now and I want to get into something heavier. I have a budget of around £500-600. Besides the guitar and the amp, do I need to get some pedals in order to get the sounds I need? Right now I'm looking at a Jackson RS32 Rhoads (or similar) and a small amp. I'm living in the student halls **so I'll only be playing with my headphones on**. Does that mean I could replace some hardware like pedals with computer software, since I'm not using the amp at all? Any recommendations?

I'd love to start playing some riffs from the following:

* A7X
* System of a Down
* Rammstein
* Mick Gordon
* Megadeth

After over-analyzing everything you guys said and talking to a few guitarists, I ended up going with:

<ul>
<li>Schecter Omen Extreme 7 for its overall good reviews and awesome looks. Thanks for showing me other guitars!</li>
<li>Steinberg UR22C USB 3, as it will work really well with the hardware I have.</li>
</ul>

I was planning to get an audio interface anyway, so I will try a few free amp sims (also the Steinberg comes with three software that have some kind of amp sim), and if I feel that it will work for me, I&#39;ll stick with them. If not, I have plenty to choose from when I look at your answers.

It's an OK pedal. Some people hate this pedal and some others love it and exaggerate how this pedal helped them sound like Metallica, megadeth, etc.. It's just a beginners' pedal and it sounds thrashy, heavy, crunchy, 

 In order to get their sound you would need to spend more than this. Just my observation. Cheers!

Metal Zone: History and Infamy of the MT-2

I use the FX Loop because my BOSS Metal Zone MT-2 has to exclusively be used in the FX Loop. If you plug it into the front port, it sounds like nails on a chalk board.

Just curious where most of you run your FX into your Marshall. Particularly the modulation FX. Reverb, Delay, Chorus/Flange, etc...

2525c Silver Jubilee (or Marshall FX Loops in general)- Where do you run your Modulation?

I was disappointed by the range of distortion. It came close to Metallica type distortion, but still never hit the mark no matter how I tweaked it and my Les Paul Prophesy with Dirty Fingers pups guitar. I think a better option is to pay more and get a Line 6 POD which offers AMP models, a lot more effects and works great for recording via interface to computer to DAW.

It's OK for the right amplifier, but below grade for computer interface to DAW

I’ve experimented with running synths through a Boss Metal Zone. It’s, distinctly an all-or-nothing sort of effect, goes straight to gnarly, no subtle tone shaping.

I’ve got some great guitar pedals. I know a lot of older school electronic music, probably particularly acid stuff, incorporated guitar pedals to make this more interesting. But it’s not something I see talked about much now. And I have not experimented with it enough myself. 

Guitars are boring without effects unless you’re an amazing musician, and even then you still need to get a good tone going. Same goes for synths. A lot of synths have pretty good effects built in and of course a lot of people add effects in a DAW. 

But who’s using pedals? Would love to hear your approach.

Who is using Guitar Pedals as part often as part of your sound? What are some good ones to try? personally I’m more interested classic effects not Strymons and H9s and other rack mount like units.

 There is absolutely nothing wrong with using distortion pedals, I used the DOD death metal for years when I first started playing. However, there is a downside. Go cheap and you get a piece of crap that makes your rig sound like an old AM radio, if you want something that sounds pro quality your going to shell out at least $250. Quality dist

 There are also mods you can buy and install in the pedal or buy preinstalled from certain dealers that open it up to even more shaping and make it more useful.  I've seen a lot of complaints about the pedal sounding like nothing but fuzz. I must say learn how to shape sound, spend time dialing it in to your rig. Within 10 minutes I was pleased with the MT-2

 Go cheap and you get a piece of crap that makes your rig sound like an old AM radio, if you want something that sounds pro quality your going to shell out at least $250. Quality dist. pedals are not budget friendly.  I chose the MT-2 because I know Boss makes a quality product and it was the pedal the other guitarist was using

 The controls make it very tweakable and I have gotten a load of very nice sounds out of it. Read the included book, look up some MP3s over videos online and check out other guitarists' settings. It will help you tame this pedal into what you want. Perfect pedal for those not wanting to spend a whole lot

So and I also suggest the the gain on maximum here is actually too much I Prefer to have it somewhere around there and also in my taste I Prefer to have the knobs something similar to this. Maybe this one two o'clock perhaps and this one 12 o'clock Full range of this and full of this so that gives. that's what it sounds like

 this pedal is a pure metal pedal, What's good about this pedal is that it has a great amount of distortion in there and a very very very useful EQ, So you can pretty much adjust these knobs right here, the inner one and the outer ones, to get the perfect hard rock metal sound,. In the way I set the knobs right now, the sound may not be so good, it sounds like crap in my opinion, but you can adjust, just a tiny little bit will make a big difference on the sound,. So with this pedal you can always get something that you like, So this is my clean sound so let's get this going here. Yeah, So that's the sound of the Boss Metal Zone, the MT-2 right there

Okay, So, this is the Boss Metal Zone, the MT2 right there, I'm running, I'm using my LTD Telecaster, LTD TE 212 it is, it has Demarzio Super Distortion pickup, I'm running it to, I'm going to this pedal, from the pedal to my Laney IRT 120H Ironheart, it's 120 watts, I'm running the amp on 2 watts, so it's very low output. but that's more than enough for this video here, I Set all the knobs to 12 o'clock there,. this pedal is a pure metal pedal, What's good about this pedal is that it has a great amount of distortion in there and a very very very useful EQ, So you can pretty much adjust these knobs right here, the inner one and the outer ones, to get the perfect hard rock metal sound,.
