 Those should be even better controlled. After spending quite a bit of time with the R7 I think it's a camera that can make sense for a lot of people especially if you're looking for a relatively inexpensive body that has pro-grade autofocus and certainly the focus on this will outperform the Fujifilm X-T4 and I'd even give it an edge over the Sony A6600 especially if you're going to take advantage of some of those vehicle tracking modes and animal detect options. My biggest problem with this is just the lens mount on it. Currently we have two dedicated APS-C RF lenses, a couple of slow zooms there and the rest of the RF lens lineup doesn't really make a ton of sense both financially and practically if you're going to slap it on an APS-C body

 Next up is autofocus and we were actually really impressed with how the R7 performed when we were doing our initial review in Florida shooting sports and wildlife. For the time being you're just going to have to adapt EF lenses most likely and that will impact the auto focus performance. But if you're into vlogging and you got the glass for it the R7 is a great choice. Alright, overheating

 My biggest problem with this is just the lens mount on it. Currently we have two dedicated APS-C RF lenses, a couple of slow zooms there and the rest of the RF lens lineup doesn't really make a ton of sense both financially and practically if you're going to slap it on an APS-C body. If Canon does bring out a series of compact APS-C RF mount primes and a small RF telephoto then I think this camera is going to be a much more compelling option and absolutely I know that you can use the EF adapter and put some of those older lenses on there but as I discovered the performance just isn't that consistent and you're not getting the best out of the very impressive autofocus this camera can offer. As well we recently did an episode looking at some of the best hybrid cameras out there, things that excel at taking photos and recording video and the R7 placed very well

 It is a 1.62 million dot display, it's nice and bright, it's very clear and it has a very responsive touch screen interface. Next up is autofocus and we were actually really impressed with how the R7 performed when we were doing our initial review in Florida shooting sports and wildlife. For the time being you're just going to have to adapt EF lenses most likely and that will impact the auto focus performance

 The main advantage of the 18-150 kit lens is the smaller size and weight and convenience of not having to use an adapter.  Conversely, when I compared the 18-150RF kit lens to my two favorite EF-S lenses (the 15-85 EF USM and the 55-250 EF STM) at similar focal lengths, the 18-150RF kit lens performed better. Photos with these older EF lenses seemed less sharp, even though the focus had seemed to lock on. This result was unexpected, because these lenses are quite sharp on my 80D, sharper than the 18-135EF for sure

 Also, my 18-135EF was slightly wider at 18mm than was the 18-150 RF, which is nice. In terms of performance (focusing, etc), they were similar. Disappointing Experience as an Upgrader from 80D

 Canon loaned me a pre-production R7 for this initial review where I'll show you around the body, controls and features. I'll also briefly talk about the photo and video quality but I'm leaving my full performance report for a final production model which I'll link to here when it's ready. The EOS R7 on the right was launched alongside the lower end and more affordable R10 on the left and I also have a review of that model if you're interested

 The 7D II may be seven years older but still enjoys a few benefits over the R7 including a PC sync port, a top LCD information screen, built-in hardware GPS and one of Canon's large traditional thumb wheels on the back. Some people may also prefer its greater heft and composing with an optical viewfinder and of course if you are using the optical viewfinder you'll enjoy longer battery life. In the R7's favour are a smaller and lighter body, high resolution images, faster bursts, broader focus coverage with the benefits of human, animal or vehicle detection, silent shooting options, 4K video, 1080 slow motion, a fully articulated touchscreen, USB charging and camera, focus peaking and Wi-Fi all absent from the 7D Mark II. Now long-term robustness is yet to be proven but right now the R7's feature set is looking pretty good

 The R7 packs all of its 32MP into the smaller APS-C area versus say the EOS R5 which may start with a higher 45MP resolution but falls to around 15MP when cropped to the same degree. Canon EOS R7 review: HANDS-ON first-looks

I have it and love it. The RF lenses are incredibly sharp and the autofocus on the R7 is mind blowing.

I'm looking for something compact for travel with \~50mm FF equiv.

Options I'm considering are:

Any APS-C 35mm f/1.8 that are sharp wide open?

 If doing portrait work, a full frame is a better place to start, as the larger sensor offers a cleaner image and more background blur. R7 can do portraits too, just saying a full frame typically is better due to the way crop factor affects framing and distance to subject (be sure to consider crop when choosing lenses). If doing paid work, R7 might be better as it has dual cards (R/RP do not). R7 otherwise does more, especially for action (R/RP AF is weak for action)

 In short, the R7 AF pairs much better with the sensor than the M6mkII/90D, though resolving power is likely still an issue. I’m confident all RF lenses will be fine, but older EF/EF-S lenses might not be able to resolve the density of the sensor. NOTE – This is an APS-C sensor with a crop factor of 1.6

 You lose IBIS, bigger battery, C-LOG, dual cards, 40K60 full read, headphone jack, better build, sealing, better EVF, better buffer, really there’s a lot but these are the things I think are most notable, and are all things that can be deal breakers to those that know why they want/need them. I think the R10 is currently the best “entry” level camera for people that want to move up from their smart phone to something that can change lenses and offers more overall control, while retaining some of the best features of the R7 without having to pay 1500 USD. It’s a camera that can do a lot for what it cost, and might suit you fine. To be fair, 24mp will be much more forgiving than 32mp for people still learning the game (resolving power)

 Eye AF seems to be more accurate and “stickier” than the R5. AF is at least half the reason I wanted to move to mirrorless once they started to get it right. The R7 really gets it right. 2

Canon’s first APS-C, RF mount camera is a home run!

 I found that kind of handy and quick to use, and while that mode dial next to it really should have a locking button, well, this way it is at least a little quicker to use. Likewise, I really had no problem with a new rear dial with centre joystick. I have to stretch my thumb a little to turn that dial, but having the joystick right there for moving your focus point is super useful, and my fingers are thin and nimble enough not to have accidentally changed the wrong controls. The camera's screen is a little smaller than that on my Canon EOS R5, but the resolution is still lovely and high, and the screen, beautifully bright, far better than any Sony camera I've handled

 If you want a Canon EOS R5 camera, but it's simply out of your price range, then you'll be delighted with this competitively priced APS-C model. Now all we need to do is wait for Canon to bring out a few more APS-C camera lenses, and when I do, I promise you, the tests will be coming right up. I love testing APS-C lenses. Nikon vs Canon

Three reasons I returned this after one days’ use:  1) ISO Noise is horrible using C-log3 (ISO 800), even after using a corrective LUT in post. 2) IPB (long GOP) creates horrible artifacts while panning the camera 3) Rolling shutter is horrendous in “fine 4K”. It’s almost acceptable is standard 4K, but I could not believe how bad it was in “fine 4K.”

 And then it's a little bit over exposed right now. So let's just see. Yeah. Negative right there

 16 times 1.6, 25, sorry. Again, she's got a little bit of shine that might require some retouching in Photoshop, but I'm pretty happy with this. All right

 And it's fast too. It can shoot up to 15 frames per second when shooting with a mechanical or first curtain shutter, or all the way up to 30 frames per second in electronic. The autofocus system in this camera is definitely one to be envious of. It is so good at tracking eye detection

 Now, for those of you who watch me, you know I usually don't shoot with the 16mm like I'm recommending and have on the R7 here, but this camera is a cropped APS-C sensor, so this 16mm acts more like a 35. Let's make sure I did the math right for all the people who are very concerned about this. 16 times 1.6, 25, sorry
