For most people, the Canon EOS R will be a great deal for portraits. Canon's first full-frame mirrorless camera, the EOS R isn't as well-rounded as newer models like the Canon EOS R5 or the Canon EOS R6; however, at this price point, it's a fantastic option for portrait photography. Borrowing the same high-resolution 30.3-megapixel sensor used by longtime pro favorite, the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, it can take excellent-quality photos with plenty of leeway for edits and cropping, if needed. Plus, it handles incredibly well, has a high-res EVF and intuitive controls, on top of a great battery life.

The best portrait lenses for Canon's RF-mount can be pricy, like the Canon RF 85mm f/1.2 L USM, but you can also find more affordable options, like the Canon RF 85mm F2 Macro IS STM Lens. Even better for those upgrading from a Canon DSLR: Canon's EF-EOS R adapter can adapt EF lenses nearly flawlessly, meaning you can easily use all your favorite Canon DSLR lenses with the EOS R. However, one thing you do lose out on versus the Sony above is in-body image stabilization, which can come in handy when shooting portraits handheld in trickier lighting conditions. The autofocus is also a little more reliable on the Sony camera. Still, the EOS R is an excellent-value option for portraits.

I currently am using a Canon 250D and have 5 lenses that are either EF or EF-S. I am looking for an upgrade as i’m moving to paid work soon and want a camera that is going to give me that edge in performance over the 250D. I’ve been looking at getting the Canon 90D, for it’s better specs and the use of EF and EF-S lenses, however, i’m not sure if i should invest a little more and move to something like the Canon RP and move full frame and mirrorless and invest in a whole new lens ecosystem… any advice? Thanks in advance.

Hi! For the last few years I've been using a canon 5d mk3 for my video projects. It has served me pretty well, but it's time to get a new camera capable of 4k recording with autofocus. With the intention of keep using my canon gear (mostly lenses) I've been looking at Canon's catalog in search for a replacement. However, I cannot afford a R5 camera, my budget is €1500 (around $1800). Would a second hand 5D mk4 worth that price in 2021? Considering I'm only interested in video recording and image quality, what alternatives do you recommend me? Would a 90D do the trick? Maybe wait for an EOS RP upgrade? Should I forget about Canon and look other brands?

First time purchase

I’m learning to use the manual mode on my iPhone pro 12 max while I wait for Black Friday for a good deal on a camera! I’ve researched enough to know I would prefer a mirrorless camera, but as a beginner I’m not sure what features really matter. Is full frame worth the extra price? Im looking for everyone’s personal opinion on where I should start! I’m looking to get into photography as a hobby (and possibly professionally with practice haha) and I have a budget of 2k. Extra points for personal experience with the camera! TIA
