Need an all-in-one laser printer with a scanner? We recommend the Canon imageCLASS MF242dw. Like our cheap laser pick, it's also an affordable monochrome laser printer; however, it has a flatbed scanner on top, and it's only available at Walmart as it's a retailer-exclusive model. It feels well-built and sturdy, and it has many connectivity options, allowing you to connect via a wired Ethernet or USB connection or wirelessly over Wi-Fi. It also supports Apple AirPrint and Morpia Print Service, so there's no need to worry about installing drivers.

This model can print very quickly, up to 28 pages per minute, and it can wake from an idle state and get a single page out in under nine seconds. A single toner cartridge yields almost 4000 pages, which means you won't have to replace it often unless you regularly print in bulk, and it accepts third-party toner, which may help you save money. As you would expect, the cost-per-print is exceptionally low, and you don't even have to worry about replacing the drum unit because it's in the cartridge.

As for the scanner itself, it's functional but not the most feature-rich. It can only scan up to a resolution of 600 DPI, and it doesn't have an automatic document feeder, so you have to scan each page manually. However, it does have an optical character recognition feature built into the software, which allows you to scan documents into text files for quick editing. Overall, if you need a cheap laser printer with a scanner, this is a great option to consider.

Very surprising was how well the MF232w printed our test photographs. The conversion from color to grayscale was very well implemented, and the images themselves were more detailed, with seemingly more shades of gray than I usually see from most monochrome laser AIOs. The images were about as good-looking as you can get when printing color photos on a black-and-white printer. 

5 cents per page, the MF232w's running costs are right up there among the highest. That matches all the printers discussed here, except the HP M130fw's cost per page, which runs even higher, at 3.9 cents. In addition to Wi-Fi Direct, the MF232w supports several third-party mobile connectivity options, such as Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print, Mopria Print Services, and Canon's own Canon Print Business. Canon Print Business helps you connect to various cloud sites and print from email. There is no support for USB thumb drives, and the MF232w cannot connect to several of the numerous popular cloud sites available, since you need the ability to work with apps to connect to some cloud sites, and that requires a graphical interface display (which the MF232w lacks).

Sorry to say, probably going back to Walmart.

 NEVER received a response from seller regarding my concerns. Contacted Canon directly who verified that the printing was in the quality range. This is not my first laser printer, but I am not satisfied/pleased with this printer, as well as the fact that no response was ever received from the seller.

 I don't know if the starter toner cartridge that comes with the machine has anything to do with this and if it will improve when I replace it with a full, regular cartridge. I am toying with returning it because of the light print.

simple but print quality not great

 The size of it is a bit taller than I was expecting and I had to do a bit of rearranging on my desk so be sure to check the measurements. It's pretty quiet when printing, I can make a call on my headset sitting right next to it and the other person said they could not hear it at all. The lid you open and close to make copies is substantial and not flimsy at all. Overall a good multi-function machine, I would recommend

I wanted a reliable printer that was not always technically or physically giving problems. I wanted to press print and have it work. Thats what i got. So far so good
