Generally a good device and system overall but with one fatal flaw. A keen eye will observe that the backlight the Vantage vue base station increases the interior temperature by an average of two degrees when energized. One would think that the light would be engineered to not product heat near a temperature sensor. Bear this in mind given you paying pay top dollar for a consumer Wx device

So Far, So Good!  Big Upgrade from an Acurite 5-in-1

 Eventually (after about 18 months since purchase), it just stopped sending the temperature and humidity data altogether.  I called Davis Instruments technical support hoping to get free after-warranty repair, but they diagnosed (over the phone) the problem as a bad temperature board and transmitter board and quoted me the replacement parts at over $100 (and I would supply the labor). The other option was to send them the ISS and console and they would repair it for $80 plus return shipping ($12) with a new one year warranty and the promise that it should be as "good as new" (or better).  I sent it in and one month later I received what appeared to be a brand new station and console in a well-packed box

 Other than that little hiccup, it was reliable and accurate.  Then just around a year after purchase (when the warranty had expired), it started failing to send temperature and humidity data to the console (displayed "---" for those values), but only when the outside temperature was exceeding 95+F, so not all the time and not every day. Eventually (after about 18 months since purchase), it just stopped sending the temperature and humidity data altogether.  Otherwise, it was working fine, so I didn't send it in for warranty repair/replacement since I valued the continuous data being reported and logged on web-sites, like the Weather Underground. I googled the problem and found out it was a common one which apparently doesn't happen on the latest and greatest version of this station/ISS. Other than that little hiccup, it was reliable and accurate.  Then just around a year after purchase (when the warranty had expired), it started failing to send temperature and humidity data to the console (displayed "---" for those values), but only when the outside temperature was exceeding 95+F, so not all the time and not every day

Worked great for about a year and then factory repaired for reasonable fee

 The Davis instrument is far more robust than the AW ... which isn't saying much: The rain gauge sensor did go nuts (sudden 350 inches of rain over 2 weeks)

 I don't have a big property, so the house interferes to some degree no matter where I put it. I will probably mount the pole somewhere on top of the house eventually. Right now it's in the back yard as far from the house as I could get it on the open lawn. I've had it now for 2 1/2 years and I've checked the accuracy against a few other thermometers and local weather information

 I believe it is pretty accurate. The temperature readings don't seem to be affected by bright sunlight on the unit. That's something I was worried about after reading that some other models have "fan-aspirated radiation shields." My only complaint is that the user interface on the console is not easy to master

I really like having a weather station

 Getting it up on my roof not easy at all. It would be great if I had the option of mounting it in a clear, flat, grassy area away from buildings and trees. It would be nice if I could actually look at the bubble level on top to make it just right. But with big trees and other houses I can do none of that

 It has to go up on the roof to be unobstructed. And the Vue itself is a compromise, albeit a very nice one. Wind readings are best up at 30 feet where my unit is. Rain and temp guages shouldn't be up that high for best accuracy

  Added: I have been monitoring the data from my vantage view for some weeks now, and I compare it constantly to the "official" National Weather Service readings from DFW airport a few miles away. I am VERY close to those readings consistently, often within less than a degree of temp. and a hundreth of an inch of barometic pressure. Very accurate results

 My anemometer for winds has recorded several gusts above 35mph., so I know that is in line. It's a fine instrument package so far.

5 degrees. Obviously a problem there. These readings stayed there all night. As the unit was warmed by the sun, the readings returned to what looks to be correct (about 2 hours after sunrise)

Vantage Vue - I like it, but did have a problem Davis is fixing

 What I like best compared to other weather systems I’ve owned is how quickly the Vantage Vue relays data, especially wind speed. I previously owned an AccuRite system and was often disappointed when a strong gust of wind failed to record since AccuRite only relays data every 10-15 seconds. Not so with the Vantage Vue, which transmits data every 2.5 seconds

 If you are a weather enthusiast who isn’t satisfied with getting general data from your phone or the local TV station, the Vantage Vue is probably what you’re looking for to tell you what it’s really like right in your backyard. My only caution would be to make sure you know where and how you’ll mount the sensor unit so you can get truly accurate readings. It could end up being less than satisfying if your temperature readings are off due to the proximity to a house or other heat source or the rain and/or wind readings are influenced by a tree line.

I’ve had this product for a month and I’m very satisfied with the system. Set up was fairly simple with the hardest part being where and how to mount the system without purchasing Davis’ pricey mounting poles.
