As Good an experience as that was though, when we tested it against the Alienware Area-51M, the fastest gaming laptop we have here, well, the Alienware Area 51M and did win, which isn't really surprising given that it's got a desktop processor, game, optimized drivers, and also happens to be water cooled now, but I was still hoping for the Precision to somehow eek out a win, and maybe it would have, if Dell had pulled the same stunt as Asus with their StudioBook One, the only laptop with a Quadro RTX 6,000 inside it, although they did have to pull off some pretty funky ventilation tricks in order to make that work. All right? So it's not quite the fastest, but just because you're not the fastest, it doesn't mean you're terrible

 Second fastest, ain't half bad. And Having that kind of grunt makes a huge difference in applications that are able to take advantage of it. So Let's give it a go in: Mark Bench, a video encoding benchmark that was created by one of our video editors, Mark, that's basically an identical timeline in both Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro. The Goal here is twofold, to show how much GPU can help with video encoding and to tease the Apple fan boys about how badly their precious Final Cut gets destroyed

 Hopefully, with the 7750's large and heavy cooler, we'll be seeing it get or at least close. Graphics are handled by an Nvidia Quadro RTX 5000, which has the same TU104 chip as the RTX 2080 Gaming graphics card, except with 128 more shaders enabled, and a cool 16 gigs of video memory, which means, this is not only a Beast Workstation, it could actually be faster in games than the fastest gaming laptop that we have in the studio.. So Then how does it game? I mean, I guess, we better play some games

I ordered a dell inspirion 5500 in november that had halfway working touchpad.  We had a sales rep at the time and we reported the issues to him within weeks of getting the computer.  Then supposingly he either left or was fired and we got another rep.  This rep wouldn't return our e-mails or phone calls though we were having major issues with our laptop.  Finally  It got to the point where we had to reach out to dell ourselves.

The only way they would service it is by mailing in so we did.  They couldn't repair it due to the parts not being available then wanted to send us a refurbished laptop, which I wasn't onboard with (which my reservations were validated).  After numerous calls and texts, and me telling them that I have my reservations about receiving a refurbished laptop, and I'll approve one maybe if I can at least see the specs of the machine prior to it being shipped out they shipped me out a refurb.  Mind you again I did not approve for one to be sent out, they took it upon themselves to send it out to me.

The funny thing about that is I could not get a direct answer if it was my laptop being sent back or a refurb, one rep said it was my original laptop another said it was a refurbished model.  Well I got the laptop and booted it up.  It shipped without a image being installed so I spent 2+ hours to get it somewhat working.  Once it was booted I saw it was missing 4gb of ram, the keyboard does not light up at all, nor does the display work pass the dell boot screen.    What's sad is I have read numerous stories similar to mine after purchasing the laptop.    I swear Dell needs to be sued and shut down if this is the way they want to conduct business.

I need something new. Currently daily drive a 2019 15" Macbook Pro with an i9, Vega 20, and 16GB RAM.  And it is just *not* cutting it. I'm usually 5-10 (or 15-20) gigs into swap and waiting multiple seconds for inputs to register. 

This laptop will be triple-booting Linux (probably Arch) and Hackintosh, and Windows 11. I'd like at least two M.2's if possible, so Linux can have one, and split the other. Linux will be the primary OS.

I don't care, but I only want to purchase a laptop as barebones as possible. This means base/minimum RAM, no storage, (my own wifi card?) etc. 
Are you open to refurbs/used?
Yes.
How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Power is more important than form factor, but this can't be a portable desktop. I don't want a 2-in-1 (but if one happened to fit my needs, I'd be fine wiht that), or care about something being an "ultrabook". Build quality is absolutely critical, and I'm willing to spend more for it. I am (and always have been) a mac user, so Apple hardware is my benchmark.
That all said, upgradability trumps absolutely everything else. 
How important is weight and thinness to you?
This gets carted around all day. I'd like it to be around the same weight and size as a 15" MBP (4lb), but if something else hits it out of the park, I'm flexible. I'd prefer thicker over heavier, but only to a point. Once you get over 1.5" I'm less happy. 
Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
Preferably ~15", but again, flexible. I'd consider a 14" but that is as small as I'd go.
Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
YES. I NEED eight cores (minimum) on the CPU, a dedicated GPU with minimum 8GB vRAM, and the capability to go up to or above 64GB RAM. I run virtual machines all day, do video editing in Premiere (4k60 timelines), edit tons of 50MP RAW pa hotos, and generally beat the shit out of systems I'm using. I do 4k livestreaming as well. (I don't game. I'm very much a power user/know my way around computers. I run an IT business. I just don't know anything about laptops that aren't macs.

No games. For the occasional Cities: Skylines I do play, the rest of this system will more than do the job.

The trackpad HAS to be as good (or close to) as an Apple trackpad, and the build quality's got to be up there as well. I don't give a crap about windows hello or fingerprint or CD/DVD or any of that.

Cost is the least of my concerns here. If something is $10,000 and fits the rest of my needs perfectly, I want to hear it. This is the no-compromises laptop post where y'all get to go wild.

I am buying a Dell laptop for the first time (switching from a HP Envy).
I'm looking to buy the new Inspiron 15 with an AMD Ryzen 7 5700U and 16GB of Ram.
I've read some horror stories about Dell reliability and customer service but have also seen others say they've used their Dell device for ages without problem. I couldn't come to a conclusion as to whether they are reliable or not so I thought I'd post here.

So how have your experiences been with your Dell devices?
(Inspiron specific advice would be appreciated but all is helpful)
