 So then we are gonna go over to the next step and that is remove this piece of metal here where the tone arm wires are coming together and connecting with the line out wires. Pull like so. These wires snap into place so it's really difficult to take them off but you just slide them on like this. Slide them on like this and they'll snap into place and they are all color-coded so it's very easy to see where they go

 If this system or mechanism is broken I would recommend you to get a tie wrap and wrap or a piece of tape and wrap it around here so that the tone arm will stay like this. So when I put it upside down I'll do it with one hand for now. Usually I support it. I'll just put it in here like this and flip it upside down

 So this is the one side and that's the other side and as you can see this side of the dust cover is longer and it slides back into this bit as you can see here. The dust cover slides in between this ridge here. The second step is to take off the cartridge. So usually when I have to flip the record player upside down I always feel more comfortable when I take off the cartridge

 Oh yeah there's one thing I forgot to mention there's this cable strain relief here which you have to of course take off before you remove the old wire so you can pull the wire away and refasten it after you put the new wires in. So now I'll just put this bit back on again like so you can see that it's stably on there then I'll take the nut also screw the nut back on. So the next step would be to put the record player back together again that's fairly straightforward it's just the other way around from the previous steps so we'll screw these in again. Wiggle it around a bit

The important thing to remember about Dual is that they made a lot of different turntables across a wide price range, which means there’s a lot of crap but a lot of truly great stuff as well. The 701 would definitely classify as a giant killer, with that in mind.

A few months ago I got my father's Dual 701 turntable up and going again. I'm so glad that I was able to get it going again and I am totally into this hobby, with a new pair of speakers and a new amplifier purchased since then. It's been doing a great job so far, I have no complaints about the sound or performance. However, in the back of my mind I'm a bit paranoid about it breaking or not working anymore (it definitely needs a new steuerpimpel, but I can live without it for now. I found someone who can fix it, but I'm afraid of them breaking it or something!!). Anyway, my question is... what would be a good turntable to upgrade to when the time comes? 

From what I understand, Duals weren't high end turntable in their day, but were generally pretty solid. best-turntables.com says that Duals are basically the equivalent of entry level turntables that go for between $100-$200. When, god forbid, this Dual 701 kicks the bucket... what turntable would make the most sense to upgrade to? Price isn't too big of a factor yet, I just want to learn about what options exist.

What would be a good turntable to upgrade to when/if my current one dies?

 I'll just show you the return. As I you'll see it drops pretty slowly to the record. If you're into old dual turntables, supposedly this is one of the best ones, the 701, then this is for you. Just see if we can see the return

 I was surprised because the top looks like this and this is the one from my dual MK1 and it's supposed to look like this, not like this. So can you tell the difference? There are the screws missing so I'm gonna replace the screws and this thing is loose and it can move around and I think this is actually what caused the channel to appear and to disappear. In the end I will only know if that's all that needs replacement or repair after I assembled the record player again and mounted and put on all new parts. That's just the gambling buying used in vintage hi-fi
