 Being cordless has a pretty good runtime and it's just super easy to grab off the wall and quickly clean around your home. Lastly, overall cleaning performance was very good. While there was some struggle on our cereal test, most the other tests were easily passed. All this to say, I scored a Dyson V8 Animal stick vacuum for $200 (a little above budget, but I think it'll be worth it in the long-run), and they're $400 new!  We wanted to know if the appliance would break if you accidentally vacuum over a bobby pin or a coin. The v6 wasn't able to complete the testing because the nuts kept jamming the roller brush. Of the 25 bobby pins in the total weight, this Dyson collected only three into its bin. That said, even with the brush jam, the vacuum didn't break

 The $180  Shark Rocket  has a similar design, though it also has a cord. The Dyson dust bin's capacity is relatively small, though not much smaller than similar models. A button across from the trigger releases the bin's latch. I know we've complained about emptying Dyson dustbins in other reviews, but I found the bin on the v6 incredibly user-friendly

 The v6 has two modes, a default power and a high power setting. On the high setting, the Dyson boasted the second best suction of the lightweight vacuums we tested in this group. On normal power, the v6 produced average suction, though less than both the Electrolux Ergorapido Power or the Shark Rocket on their default power settings.Suction power isn't the only key to a vacuum's success, however

 Unfortunately, due to its size and placement, I never noticed it while vacuuming and the vacuum died on me a few times as a result. I wish there was a more obvious indicator like the four-stage light bar on the AirRam, which always visually presented when the battery was running low in a clear, easily-observed manner. Still, if you're using your v6 as a light cleaning or touch-up vacuum and store it on the charging dock, you shouldn't have to worry about running out of battery in the middle of a run.  As I said, it only takes three and a half hours to charge up, but it has a short running time. 20 minutes is pretty good for normal setting, but only six minutes on max. that's you know. it's okay for doing the quick cleanups that need the extra suction power, but you're not going to get around your whole house in six minutes unless you live in a tiny apartment

 then I need to slide the brush all in. make sure it goes in this way. First, you've got a spindle, one end that needs to be facing outwards and you just insert it this way into the cleaning head, rotate it a bit until it's flush, and then okay to the end cap and use a coin to lock into place.  that's you know. it's okay for doing the quick cleanups that need the extra suction power, but you're not going to get around your whole house in six minutes unless you live in a tiny apartment. Don't care about too many bells and whistles, mostly just want it to be good with a higher pile standard carpet and with tile and to handle dog hair and be reasonable with how long I go between dust bin emptying. Any dog owners have any opinions on how it handles dog glitter on carpet and on tile? Saw RTings said it was fine, but that's difficult to gauge when it's up against vacuums that cost twice what it costs.

 All in all, we would sum up our experience as follows: 1) Dyson has done a splendid job of marketing their product as the perfect vacuum. 2) This product is almost totally unusable for day-to-day, real life vacuuming purposes. 3) For $350, we were sold a bill of goods that this item cannot deliver. Buyer beware! Unless you live a perfectly clean life, have ample time to vacuum your place 2-3 times a week, and only have a small pet, this vacuum is a waste of your hard earned $$

 We sent back the V6 and are waiting for the replacement to arrive. Hence, we are changing rating to 3 stars for now. Maybe more after we receive the "Ball Allergy Extra" replacement unit.

 3) For $350, we were sold a bill of goods that this item cannot deliver. Buyer beware! Unless you live a perfectly clean life, have ample time to vacuum your place 2-3 times a week, and only have a small pet, this vacuum is a waste of your hard earned $$. We will now try to gain recourse directly with Dyson.

.it is by far the best vacuum I have had for sucking the hair out of our rugs. Hey Dyson.

 The problem is if you try to use the filter damp the machine gives you the signal it is full or the filter is clogged. I learned this the hard way. The night before having guests over I washed the prefilter. It was still damp in the morning

Can a cordless **ever** be the only vacuum for wall to wall carpet? What is best for stairs? Is there anything as powerful as the v15 or v11 outsize in the stick and attachments area? I want to be able to switch out attachments and vacuum everywhere, and have enough so that there are kitchen ones and then ones for gross stuff I don't want touching the other attachments.

The design on the canister is also annoying, because hair doesn't just come out when you open it so you have to stick your fingers inside to knock things loose and there are a few spots that are just unreachable. Additionally, the battery died before I was able to finish the whole thing, and it cannot be used while plugged in
