Amazon Eero 6 Mesh WiFi System｜Set up & Review

My AT&amp;T router worked pretty well (not perfect). I'm moving to another house, about 1,800sqft. Unfortunately, AT&amp;T fiber is not available.

I have many devices - Chromecasts, Google Homes, 4K HDR home theater, computers, Plex server, Ring cameras, Reolink cameras, Hue lights, etc.

I also use Oculus Quest VR streaming from Virtual Desktop. 

My understanding is that mesh networks are good for many simultaneous devices, but there is a compromise with speed/latency. 

I tried searching Reddit first, but didn't have much luck.

After years of great AT&amp;T fiber, I have to switch to Xfinity Gigabit. What modem &amp; router should I get?

" I said, "doesn't that defeat the purpose of why I purchased an Eero 6 to go back to WiFi 5?" She had no good answer. And I can't believe the best solution they can come up with is to downgrade back down to a WiFi 5 system after just purchasing this new Eero 6 system.  In my mind either the Eero 6 router has an internal issue or there's a software stability glitch that needs to be fixed, not to just not use the Eero 6 and go back to the Eero Pro 5!

 I did unplug the Eero extender and deleted it from the system to avoid any oversaturation of signal.  What was customer services' answer when I called about the sudden dropped internet (solid white to red indicator light)? "You may need to just go back to using your Eero Pro (5)." I said, "doesn't that defeat the purpose of why I purchased an Eero 6 to go back to WiFi 5?" She had no good answer. And I can't believe the best solution they can come up with is to downgrade back down to a WiFi 5 system after just purchasing this new Eero 6 system

 So I think because this is a new product, I think there will be firmware updates to address this. Again, after a few attempts, I did get to the 5 gigahertz, which did give me way better speeds as you guys can see, but when I wasn't on that, it was actually a lot slower. Jumping to the Airwrap, this is one of those super easy to use apps that's also very, very stable. So you could be up and running in literally 5 to 6 clicks and you're good to go

 I'm going to unbox this thing, do some speed tests both in wired and wireless backhaul, and do some range tests to see how far we can actually get. So this does support speeds of up to gigabit and supposedly covers up to 3,000 square feet. And it has two ethernet ports on each. This one also supports Zigbee and Thread just as a heads up

 And we have a little warranty safety and legal. It's been a couple days since I've unboxed these. I've been using as my main mesh system and so far so good. So no drop, something like that

 Jumping to the Airwrap, this is one of those super easy to use apps that's also very, very stable. So you could be up and running in literally 5 to 6 clicks and you're good to go. So essentially, it just tells you how to connect it to your modem and then it tells you to pick a Wi-Fi name and you're pretty much up and running. Very, very simple and it works very, very well

Hey folks, I don't think my Orbi Wifi 6 (rbr750) with 2 satellites is keeping up with the number of devices I'm using. I'm experiencing weird behaviors so I'm looking to upgrade. I've spent hours upon hours reading and I'm more confused than when I started.

Option 1) Bigger, badder mesh network.. not all of them have a claimed number of devices so I don't understand which to buy. Orbi systems only have 1 router, do mesh systems that use all routers spread the device load?

Option 2) router+access points

Option 3) I legit don't know, I'm confused

What do y'all with high device counts use?

Router for 70+ devices

Terrible technical support.

I love apple. That’s why I’m here. My old setup was really good in theory. On the right side of the house was an airport time capsule. I had a hardwired cat 7 Ethernet from that to an AirPort Extreme on the left side of the house. 

For whatever reason though, it was just unstable. I’d wake up to over 50 alerts that my cameras went offline. Constant notifications throughout the day. 

Even my ping speed was like 70-80 on my Mac when hardwired. 


Welp, someone said to upgrade and I did. I was hesitant because in my brain I figured Apple was still optimizing HomeKit for their routers, idk why. But anyway I upgraded. Got the linksys velop. And literally all my issues are solved.

The last AirPort Extreme and time capsule were designed in 2013 (still sold until 2018 though). That’s 8 year old technology. Upgrade to something better. It’s worth it.

PSA: Ditch Apple’s Airport routers for new mesh routers.

A couple issues, overall good.

I had the 2013 Time Capsule up until the Eero Pro 6 came out. Still the most stable WiFi experience I’ve had.

After 10+ years of using AirPort Extreme and Express, I finally gave hope of Apple reentering the market and switched to more modern WiFi. Every HomeKit post about unresponsive HomePods, confused Siri, slow lights, broken automations is answered with “did you check your WiFi?”

Guess they were right. So far so good, fingers crossed!

EDIT for those who asked:

I went with Netgear Orbi WiFi 6 mesh AX4200 since I didn’t want either Google or Amazon up in my business. Actually purchased the dual band, but returned it unopened for the tri band setup. 10x improvement on AppleTV and 700mbs wireless, wound up skipping the ethernet drop to the iMac.

I held out for years since the Airport setup was ‘fine’. What changed since 2010 is my expectations: forty or so HomeKit devices, 4K streaming, video calls, HomePod. None of that existed ten years back, so shout out to the Airport for ticking away untouched in a dusty corner. I was dreading setting my home up again, but reused same SSID and PW and was up and running in no time. 

So for anyone else sitting in the fence thinking ‘fine’ is fine, take the plunge!
