CR’s take: The Eufy RoboVac G30 Edge isn’t great on carpet, but it boasts top marks for cleaning bare floors. This model is top-notch at navigation—not all robotics are—earning an Excellent rating. It’s also great at cleaning along the edges of walls and corners, and runs rather quietly compared with competing bots. Unlike the other Eufy models on this list, the G30 Edge is WiFi enabled, meaning you can control it from your smartphone. It offers decent data security in our tests, but its data privacy could be better (though it’s not any worse than many competitors).

  The roller brush will get tangled with hair and will require cleaning. This is to be expected but on one occasion, after cleaning the brush and reinstalling it, the vac made a clicking / grinding noise while running. I had to take the brush out again and after reinstalling it, the noise didn't come back. This seems odd, considering the brush was cleaned and not tangled

 It can see walls and will slow down and gently tap the wall before switching directions.  The vac navigates its way through and around table and chair legs, shoes, and other obstacles, remembering where it has already been (presumably by using the mapping feature). It seems to only need a few inches of space between objects (like chair legs) to be able to get in there and clean and rarely gets stuck in those areas.  It also is able to work around some spots that are troublesome in one direction, but ok in other directions

  The runtime appears to be as advertised, which is around 60 minutes on BoostIQ mode (variable suction power). Also, the BoostIQ mode seems to work as it should, increasing suction on carpet and decreasing it on bare floors.  This device is easily added to Google Home by linking the eufy account to Google. Then you can add the device to the home and simply tell google to have robovac (or whatever you name it) start cleaning and/or go home

 This is much better than other models that randomly run around the house with the goal of eventually getting everything clean.  It does not bump into walls full force. An OK budget vacuum option (short test, in-depth results)

My husband and I are big fans of Eufy robovacs. I think this was our 3rd one, not counting another one that we gifted to friends.  Although we already own the Roborock S6, we bought this thinking it would have the same mapping and (methodical) vacuuming capabilities as the Roborock, but with the added plusses of (1) being slim enough to fit under our bed (our Roborock was too thick) and (2) not getting stuck under the couch due to thick shaggy carpet we had in front of the couch (like our Roborock). Even though we had the Roborock, we continued to use our Eufy30C in the main bedroom but wanted to replace it so that we had one robotic vacuum for the entire first floor -- which included our bed and bath

 Due to the thin legs of the dining chairs and the odd shape of the dining table base (it's a Saarinen/tulip table), the legs and table base were not easily detected by the anti-bump sensor of the robovacs and kept getting bumped (over and over and over again). The "no-go" zones made it easy to set a schedule for vacuuming 2-3x a week without a whole lot of moving things out of the way (only had to move the dog bowl and his little bed).  So overall, the product was as good as my previous Eufy 30C in terms of navigating over my thick carpets and doing a good job of cleaning, but it just didn't have enough extra features that made it worthwhile to move to this new model. In fact, the extra features that were advertised did not work well at all

Not ready for prime time

I know these robot vacs aren't perfect, but the other model used to make our floors okay if we had last-minute company. Now, I'm dragging out the regular vacuum for that, cleaning like a madwoman. Kind of a bummer, but it's better than nothing at all, I guess

  I rate the G30 Edge as a 3.5, really.  I wanted a second robot vac (Ruffy, as named by our kiddo) since we have a bi-level home, and chose the G30 edge. I liked the idea of being able to track where it went (we've had the dreaded cat poop dragged over the carpet scenario, **shiver**) and def needed the boundary strip capabilities

not as good as our 30C--single brush makes a difference

 It loses the little rotating brush on the front occasionally when encountering our thin throw rugs. It does not have enough suction to deep clean carpet well. Our house is about 1600 sq ft on the main floor and the battery usually does not last long enough to do the whole thing. And due to the design it does not clean within 4 inches of walls or other objects where the rotating brush does not reach

 It has to back up and turn around so often, it runs the battery down prematurely. You have to pick up any shaggy throw rugs and move any electrical cords on the floor. It loses the little rotating brush on the front occasionally when encountering our thin throw rugs. It does not have enough suction to deep clean carpet well

Works well on hard floors

The product does a great job of cleaning but trust me you will not get 100 minutes of cleaning. I leave mine of standard suction and barely get 60 min. Maybe I just got a bad battery even tho I have only had it a for a month. It does a good job at getting all areas - it may leave an area and not finish which doesn’t make much sense but it will eventually come back

Great cleaner but battery life sucks …..

 I've been using it about a month and thought I'd give my early impressions.  Set-up of the G30 Edge is easy. Download the app, connect it to wifi, adjust a few setting and you're ready to go. The first few times out I had the suction set to "Standard" but found better results with it set to "Boost IQ"

 I've gone from vacuuming an hour on the weekends to just a few minutes per week. And now I'm just doing spot cleaning. I think my situation is a worst-case scenario for any vacuum. We've currently own Dyson, Kenmore and Rocket vacuums - none work perfect

 I’ve had to disassemble the wheels several times to remove impacted hair. I find the unit works best if I clean the filter with a shot of 100psi compressed air after each outing. If I don’t clean the filter, it really doesn’t work at all. I’m hoping to make it to the one year mark, but the noises have me concerned

 I thought for sure the vacuum wouldn't navigate between kitchen chairs and under the very tight spaces of our couches and ottoman, but it handled it with ease. When the vacuum did get pinched, it found its way out and I didn't have to intervene. I am very impressed how far these have come since the first days of the iRobot models.  The vacuum sneaks into areas and grabs dust bunnies, hair and particles that your average upright vacuum will miss

First the pros: We have roughly 1600sq ft downstairs of which this vacuum was able to identify 1200sq ft and clean it accurately before the battery ran out. The mapping feature is GREAT and I was very impressed with how well the G30 navigated all of our furniture and what I thought were impassible spaces. I thought for sure the vacuum wouldn't navigate between kitchen chairs and under the very tight spaces of our couches and ottoman, but it handled it with ease. When the vacuum did get pinched, it found its way out and I didn't have to intervene

 This was our main motivation for getting a robovac. Before the first run through our house, we did a cursory sweep of the big areas of our house. Even with the larger dust bin, I had to empty the container after ~600sq ft and it was full. I wish this model would notify you when the bin was full via an optical sensor or something

5 hours before the battery ran out and it still had a couple of areas left to complete, so prepare accordingly. After the battery recharges, (roughly 3.5 hours later) it resumes where it left on the original map to complete the house. The vacuum is VERY thorough, but this takes time to complete
