 This takes AA batteries which are handy, so I won't be giving up that, but it's easy enough to carry a portable power supply to put it up with this cable, so I'm not worried about that. Let's open up the case, take the case, it says it's supposed to fit this GPS unit, let's see if that's true, it's got some padding on the inside, that's nice. And it fits in there nicely, so it has a belt loop. So that's a good investment to keep your screen safe

(I’m sure there is a proper name but not sure what it is. I’m getting into more solo hikes/hunting and I want something that I can use to see where I’m at. Plus tell me where I have hikes so I can mark my tree strand. Also if I can link up to phones so say my wife (she get worried when I go out solo) she can see where I’m at in the woods. Not trying to break the bank but at the same time when it comes to safety I’m willing to spend some money. Any input would be great. Thanks

 Hey everyone, K0LWC here. A little something different today. Today we're going to actually look at and review my brand new purchase of the latest Garmin GPS, the GPS Map 66ST. Is it worth the money? Let's check it out

 When you pull off the back, you're just going to find two AA batteries. So, if you're worried about battery life, throw a couple extra packs of AA's in your car or in your backpack and you'll be all set to go. Battery life, pretty darn good on this 66ST. Now, if you're like me coming from a very, very old GPS unit, here is one of the major benefits of why you might want to upgrade

This unit is supported for the GNSS systems, meaning this does not just have the United States GPS system. It also has the Galileo from the EU and the GLONASS system from Russia

 Great military spec build. It's a great unit for $450. However, if you have a unit that's only a couple of years old, you might want to stick with that or if $450 is too much for you, do take a look at the 64 series which can be had for a little over $200 right now so you can almost cut your costs in half. So, there's my review

Garmin GPSMAP 66st First Impressions

 This resulted in the system turning off and corrupting the fit file. The pointer on the map stopped working today On two hikes the tracking has turned off The Garmin Connet app and the Garmin Explore app are terrible and I mean terrible. Today I went for a hike and the Connect app lost its connection with the Garmin 66i. To reconnect the smartphone app you with the 66i you need an internet connection that was not present because you in the mountains The 66i does not have a 121

 2- Holy crap does this thing makes you feel like there's some TSA section just for it. You have to download 3 different apps and sync all them fudgeRS to get this puppy going. 3- Maps!!!!! What in the hell are those?!!! you're paying about $600 per unit(I got 2) and this suckers don't come with maps for you to do your own/custom routing!!!!!! YOU HAVE TO SHELL OUT an extra $20 + tax (download).

.AN EXTRA $20 + TAX!!! 4- There's no warning fo turn by turn, none. BUT OF COURSE THAT COULD BE SOLVED BY an extra $20 + tax.

FOR THE MAPS!!!!  Stay tune, soon I'll be getting lost (out of my own volition) and putting that iNREACH to the test, hopefully it'll goes well or I"LL HAVE TO GET THE $20 + TAX MAPS!!!

Garmin gpsmap 66 explorer review- Don’t Buy!!

 Really the only reason I am giving this 3 stars and not five is the price. In my opinion, if you are going to pay nearly $600 dollars for a handheld gps, you should get something that doesn't look or operate like it is out of 2004 GPS selections. The app and computer program don't integrate as well as I would have hoped for either. If you don't mind the $600 price tag go for it, if I had known how outdated this was I would have just stuck with a cheaper model like the explorer, the 66i doesn't seem to be much more advanced than it anyways

 The GPS is definitely not good for driving, it gives very long and indirect routes. The inreach messaging is great, and is definitely a must for going out of cell range alone along with the SOS for peace of mind. Really the only reason I am giving this 3 stars and not five is the price. Great product, super outdated though

 I'm going to switch it to that. So they have different life characteristics than the regular NIMH. They are going to hold a higher charge longer. And lithium batteries are good, but I've had bad luck with rechargeable lithium, so I don't use those

 And I usually carry a couple of alkaline batteries, AA batteries as a backup in case my batteries run out. So I'm going to switch to pre-charge NIMH. So that should give us the best battery life, so the GPS knows how to manage its battery a little bit better. If you like this video, please give it a thumbs up

 I decided to use GPS plus Galileo, so you have a different choice here. You can use GPS mode, which is just the United States system, GLONASS, which is the Russian system. I'm not going to use that if I can avoid it. Galileo is a newer system by the European Union, and from what I've read, it has at least 20, 30 satellites up already, and it can offer greater accuracy than GPS or GLONASS

 Again, it uses more battery, but I use this on my old GPS device, and you definitely get better accuracy if you turn that on. So I want to recommend using those. So that's a satellite. And down here is your battery type
