 So what I can do when I'm flying is calibrate the altimeter at an altitude that I know and this gives me a great cross reference to my aircraft altimeter as well as you know tracking the pressure changes and things like that especially as I move from the lowlands out into the mountains having the built-in altimeter and barometer on here has really been a great feature to have and to use. Number six is all of the different types of maps topographical maps where you have a lot of detail about even in Lesotho here where it's pretty remote you've got a lot of information about villages, rivers, roads, trails, all that kind of thing is showing up on these very detailed shaded relief topographic maps. Also has the bird's eye imagery which is great if you know a specific area you're going to you can download that with bird's eye direct when you're in a wi-fi connection you can download that and that is free of charge with this device and then you have the city navigation maps which are great when you're in a vehicle driving and navigating especially if you go to a country or a place where you may not have a cell phone and google maps is not going to be useful so having a city map on here is really great. I really love the car mount that comes with this device what I like about it is I've used it a lot in the aircraft and in the car and it has a built-in speaker to the car mount so you clip it in that gives it obviously the external power if that's plugged into the to the vehicle and what I found really useful is depending on the space you have like in the cockpit I can have the device in portrait mode when I'm in a vehicle I can flip it around and have it more in a traditional vehicle style mode and that car mount is just really a great accessory and I've loved all the options that that gives me flying and driving

Garmin Montana 700i review

This GPS has a very large screen that has good visibility when light is directly shining on it.  However, this thing is HEAVY and doesn't stay put. The AMPS mount flops around on the RAM balls, even after you use tools to crush the plastic balls. This thing needs to come with a mount for the $700 pricetag

 Map rendering very, very quick, performing very, very well there, you can see great clarity of that screen when we're doing that. So really nice, again this little tab here, menu I suppose, map set up, just as we would expect to see on any other Garmin GPS unit. But I suppose we've just got our shortcut of what we're using when we're out and about, our main pages, et cetera and then we've got our main menu for those who want to go in a little bit more and use those original ones there. Because we're indoors it's not using, not getting any satellites, but as I said we've got the GPS and the Galileo as well, which is the European satellites

 I think the key thing here is the size of that screen, fantastic good clarity of screen. As with all Garmin's they look really, really good outdoors, I've actually just put the compass rose at the top of that and that just shrinks up there.  Slightly different way of navigating, we do have this scroll down at the bottom, so really nice quick way to get to pages, so that's our map page, there's our compass page, trip computer page because this is the inReach model, we've got the inReach technology and that's where we can send messages and our magnifying glass is where to which is where we can find our routes, tracks, et cetera, et cetera. Go back to our home which is there and we'll go back to that traditional menu. I think the key thing here is the size of that screen, fantastic good clarity of screen.  So, Montana 610, this is an upgrade from the 600, 610 wasn't that much change from the 600 and the 610. As you can see, the key thing here is the size of the screen. So, the new Oregon 700 is a 5 inch diagonal size of the screen where it's 4 inch on the old Montana 610. So, how does this do? We're 2 inches across on the old Montana 610 and we're now 2 and a half inches across

 Get that if you don't care about the touchscreen and you want to save some weight and have a better battery. And if you want to go really lightweight, I would get an inReach Mini and pair that with a smartphone that has an app like Gaia GPS on it, which is basically what this sort of aspires to be. You know, smartphones are basically supercomputers that fit into the palm of your hands. Scrolling or looking at a map on an iPhone is a much smoother experience than it is on this, but the iPhone is not a purpose-built outdoor instrument

 And it's an easy way to say thank you for this video and help me afford things like this, which Garmin doesn't give me for free. Another good point is that this video is not sponsored by Garmin. Garmin has not given me a free unit to test. Garmin will not even return my phone call, so this is a completely unbiased review and walkthrough of this unit

I bought the Montana 700i almost a year ago. My purpose was to have high quality maps loaded which do not depend on cell data access, given that sometimes I might be 80 miles from a place where I could make a phone call, much less get data. Given that I am sometimes very remote, I wanted the InReach technology so I could call for help, and keep in touch with my family. I use the 700i when driving (in conjunction with a Garmin Nuvi, which works better for that) and also for daily walks and hiking

 At first I though that it was something I was doing (battery, cable, charger, etc), but the problem kept getting worse. So two weeks before the 1 year warranty expired, I requested a replacement unit and so now I have a new one.  Important things to know about the 700i is that it is heavy, and the maps require downloading huge files (e.g
