 It needs to be dried out in. Two straps will help cinch down the front pocket and make its contents nice and snug. [Music] Two more large stretch pockets on either side make a perfect spot for a water bottle and fishing pole or tax tapes. These pockets can also be cinched down to size and the straps can run either on top or through the pockets

 By the time we are a few hours in I noticed that I still had absolutely no hip or back pain which I get from most other bags. Eight miles in, we laid out our bags and went to sleep. The next morning, we woke up and packed up our bags once more and headed out to complete the rest of the High divide. This depends entirely on where your hiking trips will be.  The main concern is whether or not you'll need to carry a bear can for your food.  You can post on here a general location, or you can check around to see what backcountry requirements there are in your area.

Hey! So I'm asking for some advice here. I'm 19 and am just recently (past year) getting really into hiking and camping. My boyfriend and I want to do a couple of backcountry trips soon. Currently I'm doing small trips (2-4 days) where I'm backpacking and/or canoeing.

I've done a backpacking trip in Europe before (2.5 weeks) with a 60L. I found that to be wayyy too big, especially since I'm a 120lb 5'8 female haha. I'm also really good at packing minimally so the space was just too much. 

I might want to do another bigger backpacking trip in the future. But also want a bag I can take with me for longer day hikes. I'm fine with getting a smaller bag and using the 60L when when needed too tho. 

I just have no idea what size (and brand/style) to get. Recommendations greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!

TLDR: I want a backpack for short hiking / canoe trips and a bit of longer backcountry. I prefer something smaller, but need everything to fit. Pls help!

Best backpack to get

My biggest gripe is the 6 side compression straps and the water bottle pockets. None of the straps are long enough to attach a foam pad to the outside when it is fully stuffed (except over the top, which I often do not like to do). Also, once fully stuffed the water bottle pockets are useless.

 Let's get deep into it. Alright now in this part of the video I Want to pack this pack with everything that I normally carry on a weekend trip. My base weight. no real food but I'm gonna throw some water in here just to feel the weight of it

 This is a size regular so it goes a 18 to 21 centimeter back fitting but that's pretty. That's a that's a wide spectrum but I've never had a problem fitting in this pack and I'm a tall guy my son as well, he's wore it and he has no problem with it too. But it does have these load stabilizing straps here once you get it on to kind of bring it and have it tuck into your body. These dual density foam shoulder straps are great

 So my final thoughts on this pack is that it's well built. It's large enough to take all my gear that I would take on an extended weekend maybe even a week I don't know the food would fit or not, but what I like about this size is that it forces you to stay under 25 pounds like I would I would by having this pack I wouldn't be just throwing stuff in like I would just say well I'm just gonna take this hammock at the last minute. No, it would resist I would resist that type of thing and stay light which would be kind of cool. So I'm interested to see what you think about this 38 litre coming out in 2018, which is a really, really great option for people who like to go lighter

Granite Gear Crown2 38L (New 2018 Backpacking Gear) Review

I’ve tried this for 250ish miles and can never get the right fit.  There r other small things wrong like the side pockets and shoulder straps / pads, but there r tons good too.  Talked to PCT thru hiker on last section and she loves hers and has 2500 miles.  It’s gotta fit and both of agreed that with this pack under 30 pounds is necessary

It just does not fit me

 So let's get at it. I Have my wife's mail scale I Don't have a hanging scale so this will just have to do. I'll do my best to balance it I Think it'll give us a pretty good idea of what the actual way it is, All right. So let's put this one the 38 litre on here and it is right at 2 pounds, 6 ounces, just under 6 ounces

 so that's a whole three inches that they've shrunk the actual bag itself. I'm gonna go around the actual bottom now and see how much smaller that is. okay, 37 and 40. So again, they've got three inches off around the bottom as well

 So hopefully this video helped you in making your decision between a 60 liter or a 38 litre.  So if your type of person that likes to scramble and you're hiking like rocky areas and things, the 38 litre might just be right for you. especially if your want to get into light backpacking. The way that I see this is you are limited on space so it will. It will help you resist carrying a bunch of gear that you don't need

Granite Gear Backpacking Crown2 60L or 38L (Backpack Comparison)

I love this pack! However the one I received through Amazon was missing one the waist buckles. With that being said, get this pack! It truly will help you figure out what NOT to carry thru hiking. I can’t say enough great thinks about this pack. Get one!!

Perfect size

 So say you're at base camp and you want to go just for a nice hike for maybe a 3/4 mile hike to check out some big view or to go get some water. That type of thing you don't want to take your whole pack. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna take my brain off which normally people will take these off and they'll convert them or they'll convert naturally into a waist belt like the Nimbus does. It actually has straps for it, but the crown too doesn't come with that

 I like these Outdoor Research I Did a review on these two. You can check these out on the top right there. This is my really old one, my original, my newer one. I Lent it to a buddy who's going backpacking this weekend to try it out, but I think this is a great option if you've already got a crown and you're thinking hey man I want to go for day hikes as well

Granite Gear Crown 2 (Fanny Pack Backpacking Mod)

I just got back from my first trip with this pack, a ~13 mile (4500' elevation) overnight loop in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, WA. This replaced my old, heavy Gregory Deva 60L (5.5 lbs).  

Great lightweight pack

 The sternum strap is very adjustable, but the actual buckle is a non-standard design that is more difficult to use. You really have to line it up straight. Minor complaint: The padding is sufficient, but not plush. I've heard other people say the straps get weary some, but I never ran into issues with them

 There are six compression straps, two on each side and a stretchy mesh back pocket. The two side pockets are also mesh and mostly useless in my opinion, but the compression straps can be routed underneath, which is brilliant. The back panel has a complex foam design that does a decent job ventilating, and there's a removable polypropylene sheet that acts as the frame. Putting it on the pack is solidly comfortable
