 Hario of all companies really ought to understand that, but this kettle doesn't have a good place for one. I ended unscrewing the lid's handle and drilling a hole next to it into which I can stick a CDN probe digital thermometer (the analogue thermometers typically seen are nowhere near precise enough), and it works beautifully on an electric stove, but not on gas: enough heat wraps around the kettle that the thermometer overheats before the water boils. So not only is the kettle fundamentally inadequate for coffee, but a good solution isn't easy to hack.  A corollary: on gas stoves, the small diameter that leads to overheating of my hacked-on thermometer also means that most of the flame's energy isn't going into the water you're trying to heat, so it's very slow and wasteful

5 degrees, which is a great temperature for many coffees (some like a degree higher). At sea level, you need a thermometer to get to that temperature. Missing a crucial feature for coffee: temperature.

 Looks like cheap metal and coatings are the culprit, leaving me to wonder about replacing this $50+ drip kettle. I still love Hario, but take my advice and don't let your love burn too hot.

Good if you need accurate pours to make coffee, but be careful!  This isn't for everyone.

Things you need to know about this product before buying

 Then It became hot without having the on-off switch depressed. It might have stayed in the depressed position by accident but I don't see how I could have done this. I unplugged it and let it cool off and this has not happened again. But now I get a burning plastic smell when it reaches the boiling point as other people have mentioned in their reviews

Love it but wonder if it will last

Very nice Kettle, appears to be well-made, and the pouring control is the star of the show here. The pour-over coffee lovers will be hard-pressed to find a better spout, and I would have never believed there would be a difference in the taste between pouring water over the top of the grounds in the Chemex versus a slow, sustained and gentle pour-over, but there is. My Canal Town Coffee Roasters Ugandan Whole Bean really was able to shine, and the cherry and citrus notes that I had not gotten with a quick dump over, were quite evident.
