I'm after an eink device as I am starting to get severe migraines from the standard displays and I'm trying to find things which may help the cause.

I need the best eink device I've the price doesn't matter but I need it to function as a half decent smartphone aswell. 

Any suggestions?

I've been very tempted by the Hisense A5, but I also have a very old Galaxy Note which is due for an upgrade.

If I did get the A5 it would be to use it purely as a pocketable reader, not a phone.

I am wondering if the Samsung Galaxy S21 ultra's screen is so good that reading on it will be a better experience than the A5 ?  ( I am not considering reading outdoors or in direct sunlight).

Would anyone have comparison photos of eink vs S21 ultra ?

This includes only Hisense A5, A5C, A6, and A6L. All other newer variants, I have not heard they operate above 3g in USA. I have A5C, A6, and A6L, so I can attest to these phones.

I'm interested in getting one of these phones, but I've read a few threads about how 3g is being phased out in Feb '22, and it seems everywhere I've read people have been saying that they don't get 4g or 5g reception in the US on these phones at all.

1. Is there any hope that once 3g is actually disabled in a few months that 4g or 5g will start working on these phones? 

2. Has anyone been able to confirm* that they have 5g coverage in their area but it still doesn't work on their Hisense e-ink phone? 

\*For example, I know on my current phone that I get 5g while at home. Has anyone done a cross-compare like that with the hisense phone and another device in the same location *and* on the same network to see if one has 5g while the other doesn't?

I’d be switching from an iPhone, and I want to still be able to take good photos and videos of my daughter and be able to make a hotspot for my laptop. Otherwise I want to be able to read on it, normal phone stuff and that’s about it. I don’t play games on my phone, occasionally watch Netflix.  I have been getting increased migraines and am hoping switching to eink may help.

Hisense A7cc impressions?

I have considered it just for not carrying around another reader specific device. In the end I use too much my phone to have a e-ink technology on it so I discarded the idea. Still interested in the Xiaomi Inkpad 5 for a complementary easily carried device.

- uses less power (lots of screen refresh reduces this)
- is easily used in bright sunlight (made for it really)
- preferred for reading (reflected light is easier on eyes)

So lightweight usage in bright locales is optimal. Newer phones do have built-in lighting, which is nice but reduces again any power savings.

I would not recommend an e-ink-phone for daily use, but the a7 has a speed mode that works quite well if you  use the internet. It‘s not for everyone, but you can to use an e-ink-phone for all purposes except videos.

Just wondering what the benefits in e-ink phones are? Why choose one over a normal smartphone?

The screen on my smartphone has been making my fingers feel very weird recently and I'm wondering if eink would be a good alternative.
