I use the R for nightclub photography and it can usually grab focus in very dark scenes. You'll want to use one shot rather than servo AF--servo AF struggles much more in low light than one shot. If you don't mind using the LED AF assist beam then it will grab focus in any light provided the subject is close enough to be lit by the assist beam.

In Oz, if you tried to do something like that, the cops would pull you over in an instant and likely call your vehicle unroadworthy with an added major fine. The only place where it's safe to attach a camera to your vehicle is off-road, way out in the bush, where you rarely find a cop. I'm hesitant to even attach a small Insta360 One R to the front of my vehicle on main roads because it could be considered a pedestrian hazard by the cops.
