It was so beautiful I wanted it to work out well but in reality it was a pretty high maintenance machine compared to my Janome. It was a lovely machine in it's day and still looked gorgeous considering but it was a hundred years old and it showed that sometimes in terms of sewing limitations and actual maintenance costs. I think I put $250 into it just trying to keep it working. It was almost the cost of the entirely trouble free Janome! 

Going to do some old school sewing pretty soon. Got this little 1906 Singer beauty yesterday. Needs a new belt and the shuttle needs polished. Anyone else use antique machines?

I had a cheap Brother machine as a teenager that would constantly get jammed on fleece and faux fur and even lycra, so I eventually just started hand sewing everything instead. While I do have the patience, I don't think my fingers could handle more D:

I have been looking at intermediate machines by Husqvarna and Janome, though would love some pointers. Considering the fabrics I'm using, compatibility with a walking foot is a must. My budget is around $350 USD / 3500 SEK, though I am willing to hold off and save up for something better. Options I can find within the EU preferable since customs can be a pain.

Get ready to spend more time threading than sewing–but sturdy and long lasting

  They make decent machines at every price point, but it sounds like you would want a Janome HD1000 or HD3000 for the heavier stuff.  Try to buy from a sewing center, in person or online, because Amazon, etc. sometimes sell returned machines with problems.

My senior year in high school, my mom and brother bought me an $80 Kenmore portable machine for Christmas. It has worked for 20 years, making costumes and clothes, through sequins and vinyl. I took it in for the first time to be serviced and they said it can’t be fixed. So after the shock, I’ve decided to buy a new machine. I would like something that does well with sequins, heavy materials, but can also do thin fabrics. I don’t do embroidery or quilting. Any advice on great features or a great machine to replace my VERY basic old faithful?

 :)  As I searched for a replacement I decided to try a Janome as I had discovered that they supply the machines for Kenmore. I also have a two year old Janome serger and just love it. I decided to get a machine that would do all I require without going overboard on too many bells and whistles and so wound up with the choice of this model.  When you spend the amount of money on something that we did on this machine you expect it to last. I think my mother still has the sewing machine she used when we were kids and i'm in my 40's. Anyway, the other night this machine just seized up. It would not move at all

I purchased this sewing machine for my wife so she could do some projects around the house. Since then she has enjoyed the machine and done quite a bit of sewing but this last week has prompted me to write this review.
