JBL Charge 3: An HONEST Review (2018)

Seems pretty good!  I like the portability, and look forward to hearing the reviews. I kinda wish it had a line-in like my JBL Charge 3, I can hook it up to my TV in the garage for ghetto sound bar that I can group to my stereo Play 1's.

Great idea for a small and portable speaker, really looking forward to this, mainly so I can have a small speaker on my desk in the study (better sound quality than the current Nest Mini) that's also able to be taken into the bathroom for showers/getting ready in the morning etc.

My partner loves baths and I can't stand the tinny sound of music coming from his phone so this should be a definite upgrade for him too

I don't get it to be honest - bluetooth speakers get lost and bashed - £159 is a lot on that basis.

Meet Sonos Roam

 The upside is the audio performance, but more on that in the next section. The Charge 3 is offered in black, blue, gray, red, and teal, with an IPX7-rated water-resistant shell.

 It may be a bit on the bulky side for a portable speaker, but if you want solid low-end response and crisp highs on the go, the Charge 3 is a fantastic option and earns our Editors' Choice award.

4 by 3.4 inches (HWD) and weighing in at about 1.8 pounds, the roughly cylindrical Charge 3 is a bit larger and bulkier than plenty of competing portable Bluetooth models. The downside, obviously, is that it weighs down bags and is a bit more of a pain to tote around

 A USB cable and AC adapter ship with the speaker, but there is no included 3.5mm audio, which is a disappointment at this price. In fact, the speaker ships with no accessories at all, only the essential charging cable and adapter&mdash;a carrying pouch or audio cable would have been nice inclusions.

 In my humble opinion, despite this amplified sound across the board and not being as clean as I would hope only at maximum volume for the price and what it can do, it's still a great value and a speaker that I still highly recommend.  In my case I was only able to play quote in party mode, which provides no separation, however with both speakers pumping out audio, the audio immersion increases dramatically and causes the entire room to fill evenly. Now testing this with Netflix and movies, there is a minimal delay, here's a quick demo to show you what I'm talking about, keep in mind this happens with two speakers going on or even just one speaker, it's just a Bluetooth speaker latency issue, that's pretty common. Now getting back to the buttons here, there's volume up, and last on the right here is the pause and play feature. Stop and let me get a good look at you

 Now taking a closer look, JBL got rid of that all aluminum grill and went with this ruggedized durable fabric which has been holding up well for my test. Now on the sides, JBL returns with offering those passive bass radiators you see moving and shaking when sound is being pumped through. Now if you look at the old JBL Charge 2, the Charge 3 is just slightly bigger in size. Now similar to the UE Boom 2 and an improvement over the Charge 2 Plus model, this speaker is now IPX7 certified

 The entire body is a mix of this hard durable fabric and a hard rubber. On each end you'll find the passive radiators with the JBL logo. On the top we've got the Bluetooth pairing button, volume controls, the play pause button, power button, and the JBL connect button. This button allows you to connect multiple JBL connect compatible devices together so you can have multiple speakers all playing in sync

 So at normal listening volumes, this thing sounds great. It has nice deep bass, clear mids, and crystal clear highs. As you really crank up the volume though, probably louder than you'd listen to indoors. The highs get a bit harsh

 Obviously this isn't going to compete with bookshelf speakers, but this gets plenty loud and can easily fill a room. And the passive radiators really make this sound much larger than it actually is. So this speaker is one worth considering. It's versatile enough to use in your living room, bathroom, or at the beach

 Pairing the device couldn't be any easier. Just tap the Bluetooth button and then find the device listed on your phone. It will auto connect each time it's turned on and you can pair up to 3 smartphones or tablets. It was able to successfully pair each time it turned on and music was never interrupted or dropped

Do not get the JBL charge 3, It's quite a bit outdated, I suggest getting the Sony XB33, but keep in mind, it does not have an audio jack.

I've had a Bose SoundLink 1 for over 5 years and love it, but now that it's having charging and connectivity issues I'm looking to replace it. I ordered a Sony SRS-XB23, but am disappointed in the sound quality. Even after fiddling with the EQ settings, it just doesn't have the same fullness of the SoundLink, so I'll probably return it and move up a tier.  


I've narrowed it down to 3 similarly priced (\~$100-130) options: SoundLink Color II, JBL Charge 3, or Sony SRS-XB33. Which would you recommend?

It can get quite loud considering its small size thanks to its two 50mm 10 watt drivers and dual bass radiators to help the low end resonate

Are there different revisions of the JBL Charge 3?

 It's real sleek and it's real nice and it's real like a modern speaker look. I really love the simpleness of the JBL. All right, but so in the back, you'll have your little latch right here where you just pull it down and then you'll have your ports, you know, it's to charge it up and then you have an aux in, but you also have a USB port to charge your phone with. This could be really dangerous

 There's times I went like three days without charging it. And I'll finally like just die right before the end of work on the third day. So it does definitely last for 20 hours for sure. That is one thing I really do love about this portable speaker

 Um, if you do have the budget for a charge for, I'll do a review on that probably later next week or something like that. Um, but for anyone that is looking at this and was like, man, it's 2020. This one was made like three years ago, but this is still one of the better speakers out there for sure. So I would definitely say get this

 This one is really loud. This is a very loud speaker, so you're definitely getting your money's worth. It's going to be screaming out loud. Um, I normally turn this up like 50% of my office, my work office, uh, when I'm playing music for everyone and it's really loud
