My JBL Xtreme shit the bed around the 4 year mark. Battery completely stopped holding a charge and the speaker only works when plugged in. Still a great speaker, but has lost all portability.

I want to give an alternative suggestion here: Anker Soundcore. Very durable, and extremely long lasting battery. Bluetooth range seems just okay. Sound quality is better than expected at its price point (I bought <$30), probably a bit lesser quality than JBL

Had the JBL portable speaker with the color changing effect. Lasted 3 years before it stopped holding a charge more than 1 hour. Then a year later it started to randomly smoke and a few minutes later exploded. Luckily I was just wrapping up for the night when I saw the smoke so no lasting damage but caused a wicked black residue on the counter top that took some elbow grease to clean up

Totally true. I work at an electronics recycling company. The Bose Bluetooth speakers do not sound as good as the JBL, and the batteries on the Bose are almost always dried up. JBL keeps kicking

Seconded, I had a cheap ass jbl bluetooth speaker that was my car radio for about a year because my aux cable broke off inside the radio and I couldn't be arsed to fix it.

I have a JBL GO1 that went through serious abuse and constant use for 6 years now. It started to shut off on it’s own just the last month so I got the GO2. Best small speaker I could ever own. I also used it in my car for some time, in a 1982 Mercedes 300TD. I can’t say the same stuff for the Xtreme although it was already intended as a stationary speaker for me so I dont really care about it’s batteries not holding a single drop of electrical juice.

Edit: Forgot to mention the GO1 went through 3 very wet storms on a sailboat, only thing it needed was a strap after I caught it mid-air when it tried to go for a swim.

JBL is the best bang for your buck. I bought a jbl Bluetooth speaker a long time ago and the dam thing is still going. Only issue has been battery life which is expected. 

I think to be truly BIFL it should be serviceable with a battery that can be accessed with moderate difficulty at most.

Just got a JBL clip for water activities and love it. But my Bose speaker is my favorite and has lasted for many years. I got it for free from work and its been amazing. Sound quality on the Bose is superior for me.

I’ve had my Bose soundlink mini since 2013 and still use it everyday. It even took a 7’ tumble onto concrete a few years back with no damage.

My JBL Charge 3 is somewhere between four and six years old, still sounds amazing for the size. Had to replace the battery a couple months ago which only cost $20, and I don't blame JBL for the battery dying since I used the speaker in a steamy shower near-daily for years. Not sure if it's still waterproof after doing that, but it's still trucking along!

I’m not saying you do this, but I hate when I’m trying to enjoy the sound of waves at the beach or a quiet hike through nature and some asshat comes out with their Bluetooth speaker blasting

Where I work we use a JBL flip 3 as our only speaker and it works great, we use it 6 days a week, 5-7 hours each day at close to max volume. The only thing I wish was better was the connection between speakers for stereo, I've had a lot of problems with it, might be improved with the new models though

I own a JBL charge 3. God that thing is amazing. I had an old beater car, I used the speaker for 2 years. I didn’t even need to add subwoofers or replace the audio unit in that beater car, the JBL completely replaced it! I also use it everyday for showering. It’s just great for everything man. JBL for life

BIFL: portable speakers. I have had my jbl clip for over 5 years now. I also have a bigger JBL which has been through 3 years of abuse with no slowing down. Acted as a radio in my car for over a year. Sat in the sun and blasting tunes constantly. I will never buy a different brands bluetooth speaker

The sound is great! I loses its charge even while plugged in

 For the small speaker category, the Flip 3 gets very loud for its size, for sure filling up a small room and just enough for medium sized rooms for personal enjoyment. Due to its small size, the bass isn't heavy hitting, but compared to other $100 speakers I've tested, you notice more bass here. As for the mids, I noticed JBL has usually gone with brighter mid range levels, where most instrument characteristics are present, and where most vocals reside. It's not as bright as the Charge 2 Plus or the Xtreme, but vocals are still very distinct, very clear, and slightly pushed forward for the average consumer

JBL FLIP 3 Bluetooth Speaker - REVIEW

I watch movies and stream from my hotel room in beautiful sound. I've never been audio inclined at all. Pretty much not a fan of any music, but this JBL flip has really made a bright spot out of traveling.

Agreed. I still use my moms reference speakers from the ‘70s. They’re still awesome so i had them capped last year. Quality audio equipment is BIFL!

Bought 2 x Klipsch r15-pm ( active 5 inches speaker) paired with a 10 inch Klipsch subwoofer and I plan to pass it on to my son.

Don't knock the bluetooth speaker -- even a small investment like that can make a huge difference.  I travel a ton for work and I bought a modestly priced JBL Flip 2 years ago for my laptop.  Won't travel without it now, and definitely BIFL as it's taken a real beating.  I watch movies and stream from my hotel room in beautiful sound.  I've never been audio inclined at all.  Pretty much not a fan of any music, but this JBL flip has really made a bright spot out of traveling.   Big bonus too:  if you're neighbors in the thin-walled Hampton Inn are bumping uglies, you can just crank some white noise on it.

...is a really nice home stereo system. Man, I didn't know what I was missing. It has rekindled my love of music. And I don't mean a really nice Bluetooth speaker, I mean something that makes music you can FEEL, rather than just 'listen to'. Really, every day is better when it's on. 

Maybe this post will get banned because I'm not telling about special products, so I'll tell you my setup: A Marantz 1510 receiver, 5 Minx Min 12 cube speakers, and a Yamaha YST-FSW150. In our small space it totally fills the room, and the Audessey thing on the Marantz head unit makes sure it's tuned for the room, which is awesome.
