I'll start with an apology and a thanks because we're not nearly as versed in the world as most of the posters here. ANY help is appreciated.

**Current Vacuum:** [WindTunnel 3 High Performance Pet Upright](https://hoover.com/products/windtunnel-3-high-performance-pet-upright-vacuum#specs)

**Budget:** realistically, under $325.  Ideally, under $275.  

**Flooring:** ~1000sq ft total (500 of carpet, 200 of laminate flooring, and 300sq ft of low pile area rugs)

**Additional Needs:** We own a broken coat Jack Russell Terrier that sheds like a wookie.  We vacuum 3 times a week and the dust cup (1.42L) on the windtunnel 3 gets full weekly (so about every 3-5 times).  We'd like a clear upgrade in terms of capacity and a reduction of exhaust/dust--we don't find the windtunnel terrible, but it's observable and we want to reduce it.

**Conveniences we like/appreciate about the Windtunnel:** It actually has good suction overall and for most of our purposes and seems to do a passable job despite living in a dusty/arid climate. In all honesty, a bagless is pretty convenient/cost efficient.

**Complaints about the Windtunnel:** belt changes (we have gone through so, so many).  I'm not particularly impressed (like, at all) about the amount of excess dust that it leaks. The weight is a bit on the heavy side for us at 18.1lbs, but this is not a major complaint. The obvious additional maintenance of the canister assembly and internals (no biggie, really) 

**Probable Dealbreakers:** A canister is a likely dealbreaker mainly because of mobility and the additional bending for my back.   Any bagged vacuum that is going to have us spending a ton on bags - my wife's primary concern is that we will fill bags quickly due to dog fur (it is the primary enemy in our household). If we consider a bagged vacuum it would need to mean that we could go a month or longer between bag changes.

Moving on from a Windtunnel 3 and need some help. Thanks in advance!

 Decent suction. (see below)  Now, for the cons: 1.From the second use, it has emitted an ear-piercing screech. Nothing is stuck in the hose or the motor, nothing is stuck in the belt

 4. Suction is very good when the vacuum is facing forward, including baseboards. It is not so good from the side, which is unfortunate because going down the hallway, I have to maneuver the vacuum directly into the baseboards, back and forth, both sides of the hall. It's possible to run the vacuum parallel to the baseboard, but the curve of the vacuum head makes it all but impossible to simply roll along the base boards

 It's necessary to rock the vacuum head, front, back, front, back, along the baseboards for the suction to work well. Again, head-on is the best suction. I wanted to like this product, but I just don't. I'm already replacing it

I'm sorry that I bought this, and here's why...

My house is quite large, and 2 floors, 1 being hard tiles and the other being carpet, I'm looking for an upright bagless vacuum, budget is around 600 dollars.

Vacuum for 2 floored Home for $600

 The wand extension is very easy & cleaver. Easy to remove & empty the bag-less container; and it's nice not messing with a bag. Since it can be empty after every use there is NO 'stale pet hair' smell the next time you start up the vacuum (not the case with a bag since you don't empty until it's full after several uses). The swivel of the floor head makes it easy to get around, and getting under lips of cabinets and furniture without having to re-position your entire body

 The vacuum is heavy. Not so heavy you can't carry it one handed, but doing stairs with the vacuum instead of the stair attachment takes two hands and muscle. The stair attachment can only handle light services; otherwise, it bogs down. The brush attachment is small and has short bristles so I'm always scared I'm going to scratch the service items I'm vacuuming

PRO's: Has very good suction. The slide for going from high pile carpet to low pile/hardwood is easy. It seams to clean our high pile very well. Also, cleans the hardwood floor well without the floor attachement (just turn the brush roller off and move the slide to 'low pile/hardwood'

Pro's & Con's

 The little "floor attachment" is really kind of a joke. It is not easy to remove and replace as it should be, so the couple of times I've used it have been underwhelming. 3. Hard floor suction is inconsistent

Not as Good as I hoped

 It’s easy to clean and reassemble once you get how it goes back together. I would not necessarily call it light weight, but it’s not incredibly heavy. When the one feature is on it does self propel and that helps, otherwise it’s kind of a beast to push/pull. I’m giving this a 4 for suction/cleaning when the one feature is turned on

 It took me a minute to figure out how to get the hand to tilt down (step on vacuum bottom and tug handle towards you). The vacuum does get under things pretty well and has good suction. “Wand release” was also a little confusing at first, but is nice to have the expanding wand option. There is not a light on this vacuum and no cord rewind (I miss having those!)

 I don’t know if it’s “hardwoods” button on or off, but it makes extra noise and spins extra side parts when on. Whatever that function is works best/really well, when not on it isn’t so great. It took me a minute to figure out how to get the hand to tilt down (step on vacuum bottom and tug handle towards you). The vacuum does get under things pretty well and has good suction

 Step on button feature to go between carpet and flat floors very easy. Lots of good attachments, all easy to use. Self-propelled forward motion. But the cleaning is impressive

 While it was working it was terrific, however, if I knew I was paying this much money for an item that would only work for a year, I would not have purchased it.
