 It is one of the cheapest upright vacuum cleaners on the market that is actually worth having. The build quality is okay and they clean carpet well.

 Another nice thing about the canister is that it has height adjustments on the power nozzle in case your carpet is thick. I have both of these units and I am very happy with them. Keep the filter at the top of the dust bin clean and make sure you replace the exhaust filter every so often. These procedures are in the owner's manual

Definitely do not go for that Shark. Those are one of the worst deals you can get as the build quality is horrible and the bin design makes it to where dirt gets stuck in every crevice and dust soils the pre-motor filters instantly.

I don’t know too many brands, and Dyson is most likely just a waste of money. I saw a shark for 180, but again I don’t know if I needed brushroll switch or what. Anyways looking for the best vac in that range for my houses carpets. Thank you guys so much

Need a new vac! Budget is like 200-230 might push just a little more. Whole house is carpet! Old carpets roughly 20 years old. I need something that can clean the carpet and the tough to reach corners. Willing to take whatever y’all believe is the best!

 I found trying to vacuum under beds to be impossible. This model is supposed to be good for cleaning up pet hair, but I ended up having to pull a LOT of dog fur out from where it had wrapped around the vacuum brushes and roller. Likewise, this machine is recommended for people with allergies, but I had to clean a considerable amount of dust from the exterior of the machine when I finished vacuuming, so I'm not sure how helpful the HEPA filter or the bagged design on this machine really is. Overall, this was a disappointing purchase, and I definitely would not recommend this model

The Karcher CV300 is the one I would guess you are considering for that price point.  The CV300 does not have a switch to stop the brush on the power nozzle, so a hard floor tool would need to be purchased.  With the hard floor tool, it would do great on your hard floors.  Though it may push your budget some, it is an extremely nice vacuum cleaner

Hi all, 

I never knew how much I would enjoy reading this subreddit but it's become truly addictive. That said, I'm in the market for a new vacuum cleaner.

Budget - Under 350 preferably

Flooring - 50% Hard floor (wood &amp; tile); 30% area rugs; 20% carpet (one large bedroom).

Additional considerations - I have a french bulldog who sheds (not a ton but definitely noticeable). I'd like to have a hose, tube, etc. so that I could use the vacuum on upholstery and for something akin to a dustbuster.

I've considered this hoover (link below) but wasn't sure how good it would be on the hard floors, and it also doesn't have much versatility in terms of cleaning upholstery. I've also heard good things about Karchers but similarly wasn't sure how good it would take care of the hard floors.  I currently have a Dyson v6 animal that is pretty old, so I was thinking that I could get something without a wand or handheld attachment and just keeping using the stick for hard to reach places. 

Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Purchase Advice

 It's just fine, but it doesn't really handle the hair from my cat or all the threads left from quilting. So, I researched and went back to what I know is good! I would never buy anything else other than this Kenmore. People complain that it's heavy. Well, okay

 I like that it's bagged. I don't like bagless vacuums and never have. I'm in my 60's and can handle this just fine. When I'm finished, it's done what I wanted it to do, every single time

My 2nd Kenmore Elite

 It is a fairly heavy machine that does not weigh a whole lot less than the older Hoovers like the one you have, but the cleaning performance and build quality are both superb for the price. In fact, it is one of the most powerful operates in terms of suction and airflow on the market across all price ranges. Self propelled machines are a thing of the past. The only one on the market still is the Kirby, but I definitely do not suggest buying one of those new

1st Time Buyer

I also happen to own a Hoover ONEPWR HEPA+ and am quite fond of it. The unit is very lightweight which is something that the Kenmores cannot boast. For a cordless machine especially, the cleaning performance is excellent. It also shares bags and various other parts with Oreck vacuum cleaners since Oreck and Hoover are now owned by the same company and there is some crossover

 Both are great machines for the price that would clean your carpet incredibly effectively. I actually currently own both models and can confirm that even the more basic 31140 can clean circles around most more expensive units including all Sharks I have owned. They clean at least as well as a Kirby, if not better. The Kenmores are certainly easier and more convenient in attachment mode

 For a cordless machine especially, the cleaning performance is excellent. It also shares bags and various other parts with Oreck vacuum cleaners since Oreck and Hoover are now owned by the same company and there is some crossover. The main downside of the Hoover is that it has no attachments, so you would probably want a little canister for furniture, tight spaces, vehicles, and so forth.

Found a Sebo Felix 9803 (older model) for $100 nearby used. Looks old, but does this make sense for me? Older model as good as the newer ones?

Also was looking at the Hoover onepwer HEPA+ for $250 new (High side of my budget). I don't see the Hoover reviewed in many places, or compared to other options, but being cordless is a plus, and saw it was recommended on a guide here.

Ideally I prefer Bagless, but I'm reading bagged is the way to go. Also, I don't want to use a canister style vacuum. I like upright.

Was also considering a Kirby, they're used all over for under $200.

Currently using a shark, which has been great. Just looking for something that can clean better.

 They are not built to nearly the quality level of the DC07 which were variations of the same basic design.

Looking at actual noise levels with a few Google searches, you are right that the Hoover is quite loud. The older Dysons seemed to have fallen in about the average category for full-sized vacuum cleaners.

Especially if a tad bit of extra weight, which would be about the same as the DC07, is not a concern, you may like the [Kenmore BU1017]([URL REMOVED] It has a 35-foot cord which is slightly longer than the Hoover's, a motor of a similar design from the same manufacturer (Panasonic) as most of the DC07 motors, and superior cleaning performance to the Hoover by quite a bit. The DirectDrive brush roll design is also very quiet compared to the pulley system of the Hoover. It costs more than the Hoover, though you do get a better machine.

I just used my new Hoover WindTunnel T-Series Bagged UH30301 and found it too loud. I have a two story house that’s roughly 2,400 sq. ft. The 1st floor is laminate with a couple rugs and the second floor is all carpet. 

I previously used the Dyson DC07 all floors and I really had no complaints. The roller stopped working so I decided to get a new vacuum. My dog doesn’t shred like my previous dog so I figured a budget vacuum was a good fit. 

The main issue with the Hoover vacuum is noise level. I wasn’t happy with the length of the cord and there was additional squeaking when using the hand tools and while pushing it. I do think that it did a great job cleaning. I’m going to return it, but I’m not sure what vacuum to get instead. My top concerns are that it cleans well and is quieter. Any suggestions?

Vacuum Recommendations

 The Hoover WindTunnel Tempo is decent and a lighter vacuum cleaner, but the build quality of the Kenmore is far better and the Hoovers tend to chew through belts in situations like yours especially. New Vacuum for High Pile Carpet

 Like it much better than my Dyson or Shark, and I love nice clean hepa filter bag disposal vs. emptying out those dusty canisters and cleaning them. I’ve had it for about a month and I use it almost daily. I would definitely recommend this vacuum! March 2022: my beloved Hoover gets a workout and it’s still going strong!

I love love love this vacuum! It really does the job and picks up even hidden dirt better than any vacuum I’ve ever owned. It’s not super light weight, but I’m good with that because it feels very sturdy and it’s not difficult to push. I love the headlight, the dirt indicator and the on board tools. My carpet looked cleaner after the first time I used it
