This U-lock comes with a cable you can wrap around the front wheel or seat post if needed. What caught our eye about this bike lock was its security. Compared to other locks at this price point, the Kryptolok blew the competition out of the water. Our hand tool armada could not defeat the 13 mm of hardened steel of the U and the shackle. At this price point, other U-locks focus on the U part of the lock, leaving the shackle vulnerable to a thief cutting through with a single cut. Kryptonite Kryptolok Standard Bicycle Lock | GTX Review

I recently started riding my bike to work some days, and needed a lock to secure it during the day. I live and work in pretty nice, suburban areas, so I didn't need to spend a lot on a really heavy-duty lock, but wanted something that would keep my bike reasonably protected. For the price, this lock had fairly good reviews, so I gave it a shot. It gets the job done, but I don't know that I would recommend it to someone else in my situation

  Pros: - Seems sturdy. Any lock can be defeated, but this one seems stronger than most, which would make your bike a less appealing target for theft - Includes a mount to secure it to your bike frame for carrying - Includes a cable to secure your front wheel/seat/other accessories - Shackle seems large enough to security two bikes at once (I haven't actually tried this). The cable could also be used to help secure a second bike  Cons: - It's heavy. I guess any strong lock is going to be heavy, but it's just a lot heavier than I was expecting

 It adds a pretty significant amount of mass to carry around - It's big. This could be a pro because it would probably let you lock up multiple bikes at once, but if you only need to use it on one bike, it seems much larger than necessary. This makes it less secure, because it gives a thief more room to maneuver to gain leverage, but it also makes the lock more unwieldy to carry around. At least on my bike there was only really one place that I could attach the mount due to the size of the shackle

Seems sturdy, but is a nuisance to carry around

 I also find it extremely irritating to ride with, as the small velcro attached to the cable doesn't effectively hold the cable on the rest of the lock. So every time I take the lock off I have to readjust the cable, and about 70% of the time it unwinds during my ride and hits the pedals, my legs, etc. So most likely will just leave it at home.  The mounting mechanism is another source of frequent frustration

 The plastic the mount is made of is relatively soft, and it is meant to hold the extremely hard metal mounting piece on the lock itself. What this means is that the mount on the lock will often get stuck in the mount, requiring you to wiggle and pull with an amount of force that shouldnt be necessary for what is going to be a frequent process for anyone using the lock. It is doubly irritating because I, and I assume many others, mount the lock to the inner portion of the frame (since it doesnt really fit anywhere else), meaning there isn't a lot of room to pull and maneuver to unstick the lock. This seems like it is poorly designed and a much better system could be implemented for a process which everyone who uses this lock will have to go through presumably at least 1-2 times every ride

 Has my bike been stolen? No. Does that mean the lock should get 5 stars? Also no.  As my bike has not yet been stolen (presumably due to lack of attempt, not the impenetrable defense of this lock), I can't speak to its effectiveness at preventing theft, only give my experiences of its general use.
