Mythos: a climbing shoe story

 My feet looked dark brown after I took my mythos off and the shoes are a noticeable different shade of brown now after drying. So basically if you like to free solo over water then AVOID THESE SHOES.  Obviously I love the mythos, but also obviously I do not recommend this eco variant. It's just not a durable shoe

 You will do more harm to the environment by making a shoe that doesn't last as long. Good sustainable products are those that work for many many years.

 I got this "vegan tree hugger" version just because the color was different from all the other mythos I have ever owned. I seriously don't care about vegan leather or whatever. But these shoes are simply not as durable as regular mythos. Unless you think climbing shoes are ruining the planet I would avoid this version and go with the normal mythos

The rubber on the toes is soon to have a hole ripped in it and I've only been using the shoes for 6 months or less. I usually get a few years of use out of normal pair of mythos

Not durable and the leather stains your feet

 They're a little tight the first couple times I wear them, but I find after maybe a couple gym sessions or a good outdoor session, they'll have broken in, giving me a very precise fit around my foot. One of the things that we recommend the Mithos for is people who do have wider feet since the leather stretches so much, they find this shoe is actually one of the most comfortable models out there. The way that we designed the laces for this shoe, so it accommodates a wide range of foot volumes. Imagine if you had a really high volume foot and you were really stretching the shoe out, suddenly you'll have a lot less lace to work with, and there's nothing more frustrating than trying to tie the end of laces together

 The men's last is actually wider through the forefoot and heel than the women's last. This will be a little narrower across the forefoot and the heel, giving climbers an option to fine tune the fit as well in the actual mold of the shoe. Depending on your foot size, we'll have some men climb in women's shoes, some women climb in men's shoes, so it does give you an extra option in terms of customizing the fit to get the perfect feel for your foot. The Mithos actually has a rounded toe, so it's very friendly if you have a longer middle toe than you do big toe

This is actually a very comfortable shoe for you because it won't crunch your middle toe up quite as much

 Additionally on the Mithos, the laces are actually looped all the way around the heel, so when you cinch up the laces, you can adjust the tension on your heel, taking up extra room and keeping the heel nice and secure for climbing. The Mithos is what we call a round and neutral last, so it's a rounded toe here instead of a very aggressively pointed toe, and the shoe itself is built around a relatively straight line between the heel and the toe. A more aggressive shoe will curve and downturn. The drawback with that is it's a relatively uncomfortable feel in a rock shoe

La Sportiva Mythos Climbing Shoe

 This is not a performance shoe, so I don't recommend it for bouldering or if you're climbing anything sort of over hung routes. I've been climbing for a while and I got these shoes for the comfort and as a warm up shoe, but I can't even wear it for that purpose anymore. The toes are too bendy and not precise. So my toes begins to hurt on the small slab foot holds

I see a lot of really positive reviews for this shoe here and that's great but here's my take on the Mythos. Yes, they are comfortable, very comfortable, and if that's what you're looking for, these are great. This is not a performance shoe, so I don't recommend it for bouldering or if you're climbing anything sort of over hung routes.  These are also great gym/ fun shoes, I love these for gym climbing all day, they have high performance capabilities but are just beyond comfortable. I can not get over how comfortable these are. I use my La Sportiva genius when doing climbs that I will need the extra pull from my feet but I find myself on the mythos more often than not (at least for some of the day.)

5 to -2.5 US sizes; the -2.5 dude has foot-binding issues). The first two weeks were painful, but having now had ours for nine months they've stretched out to a comfortable size and I think -1

  We eventually upgraded the old-fashioned laces on our Mythos withNathan Shoe Lock Laces because the laces tended to come undone mid-climb. Who wants to retie their shoelaces halfway up a wall? We worried that the elasticity of the lock laces wouldn't work, but they turned out to add to the comfort.

5 US sizes is probably about right, although perhaps just -1 US size would have been sufficient. Note: the Mythos come in European sizes. Comfortable, good performers

 They feel like a glove around your foot, which is great for thin edges and foot-focused bouldering.  The other big plus is versatility: Apart from preferring my Katanas for overhung indoor bouldering, I think these shoes perform pretty well in a wide variety of climbing situations. They're great for thin cracks, good on plastic, stiff enough for Redrocks edging, and sticky enough (and comfortable enough) for Toulomne slabs. And they're actually pretty decent for bouldering

  Buy small. I wear a US 8.5 (wide) for hiking boots, and find that I need a 39.5 Mythos

 I've tried a couple pairs of Evolv shoes, and along with a variety of La Sportivas (Katana, Miura, Cliff) and 5.10s, and the Mythos clearly win out when it comes to fit. They feel like a glove around your foot, which is great for thin edges and foot-focused bouldering.  The other big plus is versatility: Apart from preferring my Katanas for overhung indoor bouldering, I think these shoes perform pretty well in a wide variety of climbing situations

well-made, all-around great shoe

 It has a lace channel that wraps around the back of the ankle, which provides a perfect tight fit without digging. I am a very experienced climber, have had at least 20 different shoes by various brands (I use different shoes for different disciplines) and I understand now why I always see this shoe around the best trad crags in the world. The comfort factors of this shoe would make it great for a beginner, and while it does not have the aggressiveness or pointy toe box of the best sport/bouldering shoes out there, would make a great shoe for any climber who wants a shoe they can use for multi-discipline or long session climbing. I have gone through 6 pairs of LaS shoes in 3 different models, have always been satisfied with the durability and strength of La Sportiva's shoes and I don't doubt that this shoe will live up to the brand's reputation
