EDIT: thank you very much for all of your responses. Looks like the Lenovo Thinkpad E15 gen3 it is! One last question just for my own knowledge/information. Other googled results I did on my own prior to this post led me to laptops from alienware and Acer's predator... i saw those seem to be mostly for video games. Am I correct in understanding that those focus on aspects of gaming like video processor and graphics cards? In other words, what makes a 'gaming laptop' different or more geared towards gaming, than a buisness grade laptop i am going to get for trading? They both seem to emphasize significance of CPU and RAM.

My mom is getting me a new laptop for college and the limit is $1000. I’m not a very technologically adept person so I figured I would ask for some advice. I need a laptop to last me throughout college and is able to do necessary work such as writing papers and making presentations. I would also like to have a long battery life. Reliability is important. My university has provided me with an Ipad so touch screen is not as important.

After typing this up, I realize that based on my usage patterns I probably do not need a top of the line laptop. I just want something that is reliable and will work well with adobe / flashcard aps / viewing lectures.


However, I do have several technology recommendations given to me by the school. This includes I7 processor and 16GB of RAM. To me this seems excessive considering what I will use the laptop for day to day, but I am hesitant to not follow the recommendations.
