Quality 2-in-1 laptop. Budget under 800 USD.

Hello all a friend of mine needs a laptop and needs one with the following specs:


2 in 1 (laptop with touchscreen)
512 SSD
good microsoft word/excel capability
occasional web surfing, even less streaming 
occasional market trading/stocks
14" screen
Quality. Will last him many years especially as he may use his laptop no more than 1 hour a day.


Budget cannot exceed more than 800 USD, and looking for something possibly in the $600 range.

  The Lenovo’s IdeaPad Flex 5i 14" Convertible Laptop is larger and heavier than I what I had expected for a 14” laptop. My Dell XPS-13 is a fraction of the size and weight and much thinner, but it has a somewhat smaller screen and it isn’t a convertible. In addition, the Lenovo’s screen is dim outdoors even in the shade and even with full brightness.  The Lenovo IdeaPad Laptop runs Windows 10 in S Mode

I will spare all of the extra boring tech speak to avoid over complicating this review.  The main reason someone would buy this IdeaPad with this particular configuration (Core i3 / 4GB RAM) is for basic tasks such as web browsing, watching movies or light office work.  This is NOT a laptop designed for high end tasks like video editing, gaming, heavy photo editing, etc.

 It feels quite a bit heavier than the Microsoft Surface Laptop (v1) that we have. But it feels solid not plasticky and cheap. The keyboard feels nice and the screen doesn't feel like it's going to break off when you fold it back into tablet mode. The awkward thing about tablet mode though is why you're holding it, you're pressing all the keys on the backside

 It was very sluggish during this process as well. Once all the updates were install however, it seemed much more responsive. Several updates were needed including Windows 10 2H20.  The first thing I needed to do was install Google Chrome so the laptop could be used for schoolwork since the school uses Google Classroom
