I'm shopping for a new laptop and while I don't *need* a Ryzen processor I want to try out the new thing! I need something with a decent display for amateur photo editing, and preferably 512gb. Do y'all think Ryzen 5 is adequate or should I go all the way with 7? My budget is sub-1000. Any suggestions?

New laptop feedback (Heating up and Slow)

It's around $600 and easily competes with $1000 laptops. I'd not worr about devices like the flex 5 and stuff when this exists. If thinkbook isn't available for some reason look into the ideapad 5 at Costco it's for around $500 and is usually priced around $600-700 so that's great value as well. Don't get the flex 5s and what not those have crap build

At least 16gb ram or 8gb upgradable ram
Ryzen 6 core/6 thread or more cpu
256gb ssd (upgradable)
2 in 1, any screen that works works for me
No gaming, if it's strong/built nicely that'd be nice

16gb ram and 6 core+ laptop around $700?

Hi everyone! I've got Thinkbook 13s with 5800U processor. I've been reading posts about it here and there and knew that I should expect fans being loud, but in fact my issue is not about that. I switched it to the battery mode and I can't hear fans in normal use position, only if I put it my head close to the base, they don't kick in loud even under stress. However, they spin all the time immediately from the moment when I start it up. I've got my mate's Yoga Slim 7 Pro and fans are completely off until you stress it and even my old ass ThinkPad keeps it off on light tasks. 

Is this something to be concerned about in terms of life span of fans/whole cooling system, considering that I can't hear the fans most of the time? Thank you!

Should I be concerned about fans running all the time on ThinkBook 13s G3?

Good is performance,  but the fan is way too loud for my hearing comfort. Maybe better cooling system.

I am currently in the market for a new thin and light laptop for college. It will primarily be used in software engineering and digital art in either Fedora or PopOS.

While I am still searching for the right machine for my needs, I was wondering what the community would recommend. 

I want a machine under 2K USD at around 14 to 16 inches in size. Preferably the machine would be 16 by 10, and gave excellent color reproductions and brightness. Finally, a, aching with good repairable components and user upgradeable RAM and storage is important.This will be a long term purchase so I am OK with splurging for better quality.

My biggest issue is finding the best machine that also supports Linux based operating systems as well. 

The major Linux vendors do not suite my needs at all and are honestly not that great in general. They are often much more expensive than the competition, offer extremely poor displays(brightness and color gamut) and have terrible speakers. So please try to recommend other machine here.

Below I will be writing down some machines I've been eyeing.

Hp elitebook 840/845: Very good machine on windows, not much info on Linux based OS support. 

HP Envy x360 15: Another good windows machine with not much info on Linux support.

ThinkPad t14s: Great machine with known linux support, soldered ram with no user upgrades.

ThinkPad t14: Great machine but on the thicker side.

Dell XPS 15 2020 model: Great machine with apparently decent Linux support. Might get a good deal on a used one. Still waiting for Ryzen or Intel 11th Gen refresh.
