  Lenovo's settings in windows had a battery health setting where I could set it to charge up to 80% and not start charging till it hits 60%. Glad to say these settings seem to be held in hardware, as linux never charges past 80% either. Battery is still like new a year later despite being plugged in nearly 24/7.  Note the graphics are strong in this, despite not having an actual gpu

  Backlight on keyboard is nice, but I have yet to look up a way to enable it programaticly. Currently defaults to off on boot, be nice if it was always on except when watching media. I can probably do this.

Great performance for windows, almost seamless with linux

I'm looking to buy a laptop for under $4-500AUD ($370USD) to run Linux on. Probably Lubuntu or Ubuntu.  This will not be my main computer - but I just want a dedicated laptop for Linux.  I've read that Thinkpads are a reliable way to go - could anyone suggest the best model? For me looks/aesthetics/form factor is important - ideally I'd like whatever looks the most similar to a MacBook (pro or air) as they're the best looking laptops IMO. So looking for minimal + slick :) Any suggestions? Even open to non Thinkpads.  The Yoga's look pretty nice although in my experience dedicated laptops tend to be a bit more reliable than the 2-in-1's. But if they work well for Linux I'd be fine with it.

Fast and Well Made

I need a laptop that has an i5 or i7 cpu, min 8gb ram, 14 or 15" screen (full hd), 256+ SSD. There are many, many laptops with these specs but the most important aspect is that it has ultra durable hinges because the screen gets opened and closed ALOT every day. The last 2 laptops lasted just over a year before the hinges came apart (right out of warranty period on both). I know there are the ultra rugged offerings that are so bulky it looks like it could be run over by a car or dropped from 30 feet and be fine. This still needs to look and feel like a regular modern laptop. Price range is around $1000-$1200 ish. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Need a laptop with VERY durable hinges please! Suggestions?

 Unfortunately, the latter seems to be an artificial restriction imposed by the manufacturer, especially considering that the Intel-equipped T490 is allowed to consume more energy. Nevertheless, the T495’s quad-core remains powerful and fast enough, especially for an office laptop.Great display, long battery life, and good performance. Given its lower price, the ThinkPad T495 is a great alternative to the Intel-equipped ThinkPad T490
