Hi all - I know there are many posts like this, but I had a question that didn't seem to have an exact consensus on answers via search.

**Background:** I am about to purchase an XPS 13 Developer Edition (9310) rather than the ThinkPad X1 Carbon (Gen 9). Reasons primarily include pricing (\~$400 difference) and shipping times (\~1 month vs. \~4 months). Yes, I've considered excellent T14, X1 Nano, Gen 8 Carbon, etc., but the Gen 9 Carbon is the ThinkPad I would want if I am getting one.

**Why I'm hesitant:** The only thing that's holding me back is the XPS 13's upgrade path. Here's the main question: *d**o I have to stay on 20.04 LTS with the OEM kernel?* I've never had that issue on ThinkPads in the past, and have run Fedora, Arch, etc. just fine. Moreover, the new Linux ThinkPads run vanilla Fedora and Ubuntu just fine.

**More context:** I do not need the fingerprint reader to work, but I do need WiFi and Bluetooth to work. If I want to upgrade to Ubuntu or Pop!\_OS 21.04 for example, would I be better off with something like the ThinkPad X1 Carbon?
