what are the best cost benefit laptops for working with computational modeling and 3D modeling?

Everything was fine (very good condition) except the AC adapter cord

I need a laptop that has an i5 or i7 cpu, min 8gb ram, 14 or 15" screen (full hd), 256+ SSD. There are many, many laptops with these specs but the most important aspect is that it has ultra durable hinges because the screen gets opened and closed ALOT every day. The last 2 laptops lasted just over a year before the hinges came apart (right out of warranty period on both). I know there are the ultra rugged offerings that are so bulky it looks like it could be run over by a car or dropped from 30 feet and be fine. This still needs to look and feel like a regular modern laptop. Price range is around $1000-$1200 ish. Any suggestions are appreciated!

 Not sure if that's specifically something I'll have to look for or if all modern computers will be up to the task. I'm in the US, looking for something <1K.

My Lenovo Thinkpad from nearly a decade ago hasn't been working too well for me lately, sometimes struggling with video calls and buffering videos. Also, it's graphics card isn't good enough to run a few games I'd like to play (Civ 6, Ori & the Blind Forest, Journey). On this sub, and many others, Dell gets thrashed for customer support. I have owned 4 different Dell computers, got tech support on 3 of the 4, and was quite happy with my experience and the results. It may have been simply the issues I had, clear defects with the hardware and it was under warranty, but I have always felt more comfortable with Dell because of that level of service.

even I had a awful encounter with laptop customer support, lenovo. Had issue with the laptop screen it was flickering

Not going to ramble but basically, I spent 1.2k on a laptop it came damaged and seemed like even their own customer support had no idea what to do, and seemed sleepy on phone. They came to try to fix it twice didn’t work. Made me send it to a repair factory. When they got it they wanted 1k to fix the issue (insanely high) and they were going to do the same thing the people that came to my house twice did! But they wanted me to pay! Than they sent it back saying they did not do the repair but in the box with the laptop it said on paper they did the repair (did not pay) and I checked and the issue is worse! Spent 3 month going back and forth with them. Eventually gave up got no refund, replacement, nor did they fix the issue.

so that brings the same question, why does what seems every laptop brand have bad customer support?

I need help buying my first Thinkpad! I got told I need 100 comment karma to post in /r/thinkpadsforsale and because I don't got no Thinkpad I can boast about, well... here we go!

 If you do a lot of word processing this might be a downer. Other than that the build quality is EXCELLENT! It feels solid. The keyboard is really nice and positive and the keys regular size. Touch pad is decently sized and feels very responsive

 Again, I use it with Linux so it's plenty fast. The Windows pro it came with weighed it down a lot. You can still use it with Windows but Linux is where this computer shines!  4 core Intel, SSD, 4GB of memory for less than $250 (and not a chromebook)? You can't beat this deal!

 The keyboard is really nice and positive and the keys regular size. Touch pad is decently sized and feels very responsive.  The laptop is pretty lightweight and very very portable. Battery life is excellent

 When I fly I much prefer to use this laptop as it's super easy to get through security and fits easily on the tray in coach.  Don't expect a supercomputer. Again, I use it with Linux so it's plenty fast. The Windows pro it came with weighed it down a lot
