**School, work and general use case**- I have to do a lot of work, from volunteering, school assignments( doing a lot of reviews during summer) and my hobby of Android dev work, messing with a PI( making a bunch of PI handhelds) and a lot of Geomatics modelling( I have a desktop but seeing a laptop do stuff like this just fills me with joy, 8c/ 16T on a laptop for 1000 CAD is wild), no complaints. **Battery life**- After a lot of BIOS update and drivers, battery has improved by a lot. I get 8 hr, long as your not doing CAD. So on wifi, doing a lot of lab reports, math practice, YouTube it will get 8 hr for me

Like good cost benefit cpu that do the job, graphic card...I never worked before with this so, maybe I'm not aware of the best piece of hardware that I can look at, the laptop is not for me btw, I'm trying to help

I need a laptop that has an i5 or i7 cpu, min 8gb ram, 14 or 15" screen (full hd), 256+ SSD. There are many, many laptops with these specs but the most important aspect is that it has ultra durable hinges because the screen gets opened and closed ALOT every day. The last 2 laptops lasted just over a year before the hinges came apart (right out of warranty period on both). I know there are the ultra rugged offerings that are so bulky it looks like it could be run over by a car or dropped from 30 feet and be fine. This still needs to look and feel like a regular modern laptop. Price range is around $1000-$1200 ish. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Need a laptop with VERY durable hinges please! Suggestions?

A great little laptop for travel and work.

I gone for a used thinkpad x230 running linux for college. It was wonderful, portable, sturdy and the battery life suited me well enough. If you are lucky tho, you can get up to a more recent t480 (14") on the used market.

I need a small laptop under 500 for school. Also should I stick to HP or try other brands ? Any recommendations will help !!

Edit 1: nothing needed for a programming major or anything like that !! I just need something that is good and will last for nursing school since I can’t really work this fall

Decent small-ish laptop for college students ? (under $500)

 If you fill out tons of forms or write lots of email and documents, meaning typing comfort and speed is critically important then you know why I spent more than the value of the computer adding the upgrades. Think Pad users get it.

Put an SSD and 16 gig of Ram add an extra battery. Hardly seems worth it but now I have that classic ThinkPad typing feel and very fast computer. If you fill out tons of forms or write lots of email and documents, meaning typing comfort and speed is critically important then you know why I spent more than the value of the computer adding the upgrades. Think Pad users get it
