Leopold FC750R

Lastly, for Christmas I picked up the [Leopold keyboard with Cherry Silent Reds and it's amazing. I didn't particularly feel like waiting half a year for a group buy, so I'm glad I was able to find a prebuilt that's a huge improvement over what I've been using.

I'd suggest you get a Leopold FC750R instead. It has solid build quality, good mounting and fantastic keycaps. It's the enthusiast's go-to prebuilt TKL keyboard and it's a step up from the Fnatic in terms of pretty much everything other than RGB while being around the same price. It will serve you well for many years.

Unfortunately the Leopold had a couple issues, the keycaps are much more narrow than the Das and when combined with the Silent Reds the keys feel really heavy and take much more force than the browns on the Das. The shift key in particular is really stiff on my pinky.

I want to get good build quality and have it as silent as possible. My first option was the Leopold FC750R, great quality, sound dampening material in the casing, high profile, though not compressed layout, with MX Silent Red switches.

Definitely a Leopold keyboard. Great build quality, great keycaps, Cherry switches and no RGB gives a more professional look.

A couple of months ago I bought a Leopold FC750R second hand modded with different switches and band aid mod. I haven't used it since I've bought it, but I noticed very weird behavior. The keyboard works on Windows, but when the Caps Lock key is pressed, the keyboard goes haywire. For an example, after that key has been pressed and I press the S button, on Windows, it opens Office.

Absolutely adore it. I'm typing on it right now, I prefer to type on it with or without earphones, and I don't mind playing on it.

Leopold is one of the best keyboard brands out there so the quality will be great. Not sure if there's a grey/blue colorway for a TKL version if he prefers that but you can try searching for a FC750R and see if there's one.
