Hi! I just posted this on r/backpacks but I thought people here might have some ideas. I'm about to start law school and I'm looking for a backpack. I'm a 5'3" woman and look young even though I'm almost 30, and I'm concerned about looking like a kid. I don't need to look law office-ready, I just don't want a bag that screams "college" or that's comically large for my frame.

I'll be doing a \~30 min subway commute in NYC and I'm looking for at least water resistance.

I need to carry:

\-3 BIG textbooks  
\-water bottle (dedicated pocket not necessary if it'll fit in the main compartment)  
\-a few notebooks  
\-folding book stand  
\-13" laptop (could be nice to have room for a future upgrade to 15")  
\-lunch  
\-plus the other miscellaneous "stuff" I carry around daily, but those are the big ticket items

I like a minimalist look and will probably go with a black bag without too much branding. It needs to be deeper rather than taller so I can fit the textbooks, and also so it's not too tall for me to wear. No need at all for a \~women's bag as long as the fit is right.

Hoping to keep this cost around $200, maybe 250. Any help would be very very appreciated!

Law school bag

 I believe I saw the load lifters on the 36L bag which is great - but for me the 26L is a good fit and with all my gear the bag can weigh well over 30lbs.  So, for me, there is only one way to wear the bag. I am looking to see if I can find someone to put on the load lifters, then I could actually use it.  Also, on a footnote: If you don't leave a 5-star review on Mindshift's own site - you're review will never get published

Great bag, but suffers from a fatal flaw

 but um, it makes these pockets a bit tight so they can't really hold a whole lot. That might change over time, they might loosen up so I'll have to wait and see, but as of now they are a bit tight. So just to recap of a couple of things that I really love about this bag and a couple of things I would say exchange I Really love how comfortable this bag is I love how much you can carry on both the inside and the out. I've never seen a bag that can carry this much stuff on the outside

 I Wish that you didn't have to unclip this every time you wanted to fully under this pocket. One of the reasons they say for that is that when you're not using pocket, this strap can actually help to keep the bag compressed to a smaller size. I Think what they could do is actually to reverse this strap and put this clip part over here and have it. So there's a clip here and there's actually a second clip on the inside of the zipper

It's really comfortable to wear for a long day on the trail. Has really padded support on the straps, has a waist strap

Camera Bag Megathread #3

Love the deep side pockets

 Here'S another little trick. I learned with this pack, if you're going to be traveling by air or just rolling your suitcase or roller bag around this pack doesn't have a dedicated, sleeve or attachment, but you can use the tripod strap and so that's the tripod strap is under here. You just lift this thing out and there's a strap and a buckle, and what i do is just flip it around. So it's against the handle and then this thing is adjustable

 I wanted to show you a technique. I learned with this pack and once again um i'm trying to give it the most challenge. Essentially, so i've got two cameras on me with my black rapid strap system, and so i need to deal with all the straps and it works fine. So i'm in the coconino national forest, which is near my studio, i like hiking through here and so when i'm hiking

 One of these cameras swing it around, put the other strap on and i'm ready to go, no interference with this. Two camera rig and the other thing too is the upper straps: don't interfere either. You can either buckle this over the outside or underneath and the nice thing with this chest strap is it keeps excess weight off your shoulders? If you don't use this, and the pack is totally full like it is here at petrified forest, then um, it gets pretty heavy. Of course, when i have the cameras outside like this, it's all a little more balanced

 So i've got a a fairly heavy jacket heavier than i would need for the weather today in here, because i just wanted to see how it would be when i was hiking and to have access to this and then what i do is on the front. I run it through one of these loops on the shoulder, strap and the nice thing with that is it's always accessible, and then, when you lay the pack down, you can just slide this up and your mouthpiece does not get in the dirt. That way, mind shift gear. Slash, think tank does make some packs that have dedicated hydration pockets, but i always like to you know: do the most i can with any given pack and i'm finding more and more that this pack works in a lot of different situations

MindShift Backlight Review - 19 Months of Use

I've been wanting something longer than my 70-300 to use on my Z5, because I love taking moonrise/moonset photos and also want to try my hand at wildlife photography. There's a wildlife refuge not far from me, and I'm also hoping to travel more in the coming years.

So I just got the 200-500 F/5.6, and it arrived. It is **heavy**. A lot heavier than I expected from the specs. Having handled it a bit, I can't imagine walking very far from the car with it and a tripod unless I pack it in a backpack. (I'm not exactly young, though still many years away from retirement.)   


So I'm trying to decide - do I keep this and learn to live with it? Or return it and get a Sigma 150-600 which, according to the specs, is 1 lb lighter? Or get the Tamron 100-400? I know the best option would be to order the new Nikon 100-400 Z lens, but that's a lot of money for a hobby.  Any thoughts?

Should I keep my 200-500?

 fits in planes easily.. and carries all you could want from a mid-size to large camera bag. The attention to detail on the zipper loops (making them easy to open) and the just overall polish of the bag is great

 But let's start with here. so when you open it up first thing you'll notice is you have this nice bungee and I can do since and the bungee you wrap that around your neck and it actually keeps the you know the the door open so that it's not closing on you while you're you know changing your gear. but I have a nice pocket here. nice big pocket I've got my trigger trap I have extra screws for my for my really right stuff MTX tool section bits which I forgot to show you a whole other pocket on the outside how to get back to on the inside I have my D-10 with 35-millimeter action right now on there with 28 to 300 I have some crimes here so I have a 20 millimeter there I have what I have here I have my 35 1 4 I have an 85 1 8 all them offs all my camera and lenses I have my Fuji Minitex mini 90 and some some Fuji print you know Instax photos here as well know I mentioned that filter hide was emptiest because my filter hide the insider took it out and just put it here

 I've got I've got my eye light, my headlamp I've got headphones I've got tissues my brother right stuff MTX tool bunch of stuff in here but I also have a pocket for a 15-inch laptop which is amazing. So I can do a 15-inch laptop and a smaller pocket for an up my iPad if I want to. So when I travel usually I don't take my laptop usually I only take my iPad but there will be times when I might have both so it's nice. thing is this allows me to take both at the same time not take up any extra room

 Also you'll see that there are there's straps here which keep the night the bag nice and tight here when I have stuff in it. There's also a nice you know strap down here where I can tighten it, keep it tight down here. but also I can use this to hold a tripod, monopod, walking stick. whatever I want to keep there and there's the same thing on the other side
