I replaced my 6-year-strong Arris sb6190 with a Motorola mb7621, no change. The Suddenlink tech came when the internet was functional, measured the channel signal strength, got a range from 6-9dbmv, and said: "Your 200mb plan is too slow for this 24 channel modem, either upgrade your plan or downgrade your modem." I've been on the Extreme Pro internet tier using the Motorola MB7621 cable modem for the past couple years without any issues, our upload speeds were regularly at about 17Mbps (northeast region).

After the speed upgrade to 800Mbps, I started hitting upload speed issues. Instead of the full upload speed, I was getting only 5-6 Mbps upload speed. Customer support ran me through basic troubleshooting of restarting the modem, checking all the plugs, etc.

 So these modems are not the rock solid modems from the early Motorola generation many of us have become accustomed.  I took away two star for the hassle caused by the modem and the aggravation of having to deal with Comcast automated voice hell system to reach a real human every time I had to call them. Of course Comcast could have easily told me it was the modem but refused to look at it since it wasn't company equipment. It was customer owned equipment

 The cable company kept insisting there wasn't a problem with their line and resisted sending out a technician. I put up with the lousy internet service for three months making repeated complaint calls of drops and low speeds to Comcast. Finally, they sent a cable tech out and replace the coaxial cable from the pole to the home because they did notice power levels were low with the upstream.  With the new coaxial cable install did improve speeds, the drop outs continued

 I had to hear the same sales pitch on the phone and by the technician as to why I should be using their company's modem instead of owning my own. uh huh, I'm not going to pay a monthly modem rental fee Comcast!

 Finally, they sent a cable tech out and replace the coaxial cable from the pole to the home because they did notice power levels were low with the upstream.  With the new coaxial cable install did improve speeds, the drop outs continued. To add insult to injury, Comcast raised by monthly rate per month and basically strong-armed me to accepting a 800/mbps service for seventy four dollars or keep my existing 200/mbps at one hundred a month. They did not give me the credit for the lousy service I experience for the three months prior to the new coaxial install

Bad MB8611 - Moto no longer infallible

 here. You have your power switch here or power plug there. You have your coax cable connection there. you have a reset button that's um, you need something to push within like a pin or something and you have a connection to your your network

 I'm not even sure you can do that. Um, but um, yeah. you'll need your ex an external router or something from the Linksys or Tcp. or Tc link or Tp link or whatever

 I don't have gigabit service so I haven't tested it at that speed. but I get good, solid connectivity. Um, whatever thing I connect with it. Um, so yeah, um uh

 Great product. So hey, if you're looking to cut that, um, cut that bill back some um, switch, own your own device. uh this is a good good one to buy if you're on those cable services that is, uh um, that it works with. So um, yeah, go ahead and pick it up

 I've had other ones that um, you know were provided by my Um service provider and I weren't as weren't that impressed with it. But you know I like the Motorola brand. I've always liked the Motorola brand when it comes to routers and phones and everything else. and um, this one's It's been really a really solid modem for me

I recently upgraded my Performance with Blast  Internet service to Giga service.

On my old package, I was getting 300Mbps down and 10-12Mbps upload. 

I decided to upgrade my modem also, not to a Giga modem but a solid upgraded speed modem, the Motorola MB7621 rated to support up to 1Gbps down and certified to support 845Mbps down by Xfinity according to their My Devices page on my account.

On the Giga plan I am seeing 700Mbps down with the new modem, which is acceptable to me, but I’m only seeing 5-6Mbps UPLOAD which is much lower than the ‘up to 35Mbps‘ stated that the Giga plan says it provides. My old plan gave me a solid 10-12Mbps on my older modem.

To test, I reactivated my old modem on the Giga service and the UPLOAD was exactly the same, 5-6 Mbps.   


I contacted support over the phone and chat, after 3 hours of pretty much no solution because it was stated that Xfinity can’t do anything more than test that I’m getting the speeds I pay for to my home with a customer bought modem. Well, this 20 year customer really didn’t like that answer. In the past, Xfinity was always able to run diagnostic on connection and my modem to verify everything was working.

What I think is going on is the new Giga service is either throttled in my area where upload is being limited or my upload is being throttled because I am going over the new datacap each month(stream for work/ calls). Any way to prove this?  


I’m tempting to go back to a lower plan because I was getting better upload speeds. 

Any advice? ...would be appreciated.

Xfinity Giga plan has lower UPLOAD speeds than my old plan?

I've had problems using the MB7621 DOCSIS 3.0 modem with Xfinity's "Fast" Internet service, which delivers 300Mbps downstream and 10Mbps upstream. Initially the performance was as advertised, but over time, or after a reboot, performance would drop to 50Mbps downstream and sometimes less than 10Mbps downstream, while the upstream performance was maintained.  After some investigation, I found that the problem may be with how Comcast handles the "extra" channels not used by my data plan

  I don't have a solution for this yet, other than to reboot the modem until it comes up into the "good" state. I have had Comcast technicians out to the house twice, and the second one made changes that initially seems to ensure the modem booted into the "good state", but the modem reverted to "bad state" behaviour later.  The answer may be to use a modem that only supports as many channels as you need for your plan, so that the modem is not subject to traffic on other channels. Or maybe DOCSIS 3
