Good Game, Busted Box

I think Dinosaur Island, Nemesis and Descent from my collection have a good impact on the table because of their aesthetic and production levels.

What are your top 5 most beautiful, well-produced, and aesthetically-pleasing games?  

I just snagged a copy of **Royal Visit** before they all disappear off the face of the planet thanks to SUSD. Some other aesthetic gems in my current collection:  

**Unmatched** - specifically the card art, not so much the minis.  
**Codex Naturalis** - absolutely love the art style, and amazing use of foil.  
**Tokaido Collectors Edition** relaxing pastels, and those metal coins!  
**Roam** - Ryan Laukat art is always great, but the square wooden pieces with rounded corners, and the color scheme for the player colors, are also surprisingly satisfying.

What are your top 5 most aesthetically-pleasing games?

 Then fighting or evading an alien, and finding a room to purchase ammo or heal wounds. These complaints do not ruin the game for me at all, but they are sometimes tiresome aspects of the game feeling more of a chore sometimes. And dice, I hate dice. This game uses them only for combat and noise checks, but shooting aliens is somewhat less fun when having to roll dice to do any damage

 However, the numerous different things that can happen and do I also feel limit the player's ability to work towards their goals and add some unnecessary and convoluted rules to the game. I would rather see options added through player cards and decks more than just core game mechanics. Players face too many different obstacles with unique sets of rules that could be trimmed down and more manageable. Infections, great, but slime as well? Then you have to go find a room to wash off the slime, or surgically remove an alien, or suppress fires in other parts of the ship, or repair damaged rooms, etc

I think cards could enhance player choices better than adding all these extra tokens and rules

 Of course, this also comes from the other players as they often times have secret missions that work against the other players which adds another interesting dynamic to the game. One cannot just go around killing aliens but must ensure the engines are working and make sure the ship is headed towards earth, that is if one player is not supposed to sabotage these things. Trying to achieve hidden objectives without giving them away to everyone else is also nerve-wracking and exciting. While the crafting aspect is not something very deep, it is also a very cool aspect of this game

For many, games consist of 'Monopoly' or 'Risk' and that's about it.  And then one day, you learn about the 'real' games.  The games that take your youth from you... that make you realize there is so much more out there to experience.

For me, it was about 15 years ago with Settler's of Catan... then (immediately after) Cities and Knight.  Prior to this, a good game of cards or dominoes was a good night of gaming.

Settler's broke the floodgates... then we soon discovered Rails and Sails and Splendor, and BAM we were off.  We own about 100 games now, but without Settler's, I don't know if we'd be so hopelessly hooked.

What was the game that turned you into a board gamer?

 The ship has been damaged so badly that it's likely to explode at any point due to either the fires onboard or damage to critical systems. On top of that, the players have no idea where the ship is heading or whether it can even get there. Meanwhile, the intruders continue to grow in numbers and become more deadly throughout the game.  In competitive or solo mode, the players have to each accomplish their individual goals and survive to win

A Sci-Fi Horror Survival Game hits all the tropes

For us, it was Marco Polo II. Our group enjoyed playing the first Marco Polo and were excited to see how the newer version compared. At the end of Marco Polo II, the general consensus was that it was a heavier experience without being a more "fun" experience. Obviously, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and our view clashes with the majority of hobbyists on BGG. 

What well regard game flopped with your gaming group?

Just what the question says, which boards have the most high quality production that you’ve seen?

From what I’ve seen I’d say **Dice Throne** is the most high quality game I own. The dice feel amazing and they’re all custom. All of the player boards are made of a really nice cardboard. The tokens are great too, as well as the cards. Another game I’d say is **Root**. Again, the player boards are great and the maps are really smooth. I can’t get enough of all the wooden pieces and the tokens are good as well. All around great production quality on those two games. What do you think?

Which games have the best production quality?

 - If your objective is to kill the queen, your best bet is to ensure the ship’s destruction. You can do this by either initiating the self-destruct sequence in the generator room, or making sure that at least two engines are damaged before the ship takes off for hyperspace flight. The queen is extremely powerful; only fight her as a last resort. - It’s extremely important to remember that the rooms with a “1” on them are crucial to completing objectives

  When you first play the game I’d recommend watching the video tutorial on how the game works; it’s on YouTube and is easy to find. I’d also recommend playing co-op the first time. My first few games were semi co-op, and while that’s my preferred game mode, co-op is also a blast and is the best way to learn that working together is the only way to survive in this game. Even if you play semi co-op and your objective is nefarious, it is imperative that you all work together

 Noise rolls don’t often go the way you want them to. - The items are separated into three categories: offensive (red), healing (green), and utility (yellow). If you are playing as the scientist, mechanic, scout, or pilot, I highly recommend going for red items early. You’ll often find additional weapons which are of immense help in combat

 It’s easy to spend all your ammo in suppressive fire while running away, but you may find yourself needing to fight but with little to no ammo left.  That’s all I’ve got. This is a pretty lengthy review but I hope it helps you decide whether or not to get this game. I listed some cons but it’s still a 5 star purchase in my book
