 Locate the webbing straps on the corners of the fly and attach to locking pole tips under the tent anchor webbing. Moderately adjust the tension in the fly using the webbing straps and ladder lock buckles, saving room for final adjustment. For final tensioning, stake out the vestibules and pull firmly on all adjustable corner anchors and tension lines for a tight setup. Utilize the weatherproof pull-through hooded guy lines for increased strength and stability if needed, as a properly tensioned tent ensures maximum watershedting and wind resistance

 Now position your tent as desired, preferably with the back of the tent toward the prevailing wind direction, and then stake the four tent corner anchors. NEMO | How to Set Up the Kunai™ 3-4 Season Backpacking Tent

 I have the SMD Lunar Solo which was relatively cheap and held up well. If memory serves I think it would save you about half a pound plus you don't have the hassle of packing tent poles.

Starting the PCT on May 20th, will be my first thru-hike. I've been pulling together a nice and reasonably light kit on a budget because I'm a student, but I just received a sweet sweet signing bonus from my new job and am looking to make some choice upgrades ;)

**Goal Baseweight:** As close to 10 lbs as possible!

**Budget:** Plus or minus $350, with exceptions made for especially cool suggestions.

**Non-negotiable Items:** The trekking poles were a present from my dad specifically for this trail, would be pretty mean to replace em.

I've just gotten used to my big 3, and I spent about $350 total on them. I'd be open to suggestions, but won't have very much time to field test any replacement before the trek.

I'm going to start the trail with a stove, and see if I end up deciding to cold soak down the road. If so, I'll swap to a talenti jar or something.

**Solo?:** With a hiking partner, but we won't be sharing much if anything.

PCT NOBO - be pedantic and shake my shit down

 Cons: designed without a hiker in mind for sure the only place for two backpacks is under the prolonged tent near the door (i.e the door is blocked at night completely) - why don't design the same prolonged tent from the opposite side, floor protection pad does not fit the tent (designed for this tent without measuring ?), two Nemo tensor sleeping pads also do not fit in (is it a joke it is said 2 person tent), minimum number of attachment hooks for this tent is 8 (you are given only 6 I would like to see how you can do it with 6 we had to be very creative with extra stones ..

I’m headed to Antarctica in November and will have a fair amount of opportunity to camp (so excited) as we’re in a sailboat, not a cruise ship. While I hike a lot, I don’t camp as much as I’d like to. Thus, I am truly crappy at setting up tents.

Any recs for a 1-2 person tent that’s fine at a low of 0 F (probably won’t get that cold) and very, very easy to set up? Lightweight is very important as we may hike several miles to sites. We won’t camp in horrible weather and it’ll be one night at a time, maybe 5 times in a month. 

(Just a note, I’m traveling with experienced Antarctic hands and we are abiding by every word of the treaty and camping responsibly.)

Lightweight 1-2 person tent for Antarctica

 This tent fits that criteria. During summer I will probably stick with a Nemo hornet or durston X-Mid but when it comes to winter trips or risky fall and spring trips in mountain conditions that can change rapidly, I will happily trust my life to this tent.

I recently upped my camping game building out my canopy truck bed with a nice bed, storage and folding table. This rig is used for both camping and boondocking when I travel.

I like to be prepared, so I also still carry my basic camping set up which includes a very basic 3 person tent, air mattress and sleeping bag. Although the tent is cheap it's roomy enough and gets the job done. 

Now, I'm starting to get into backpacking. I already have a four season tent that is less roomy, but quite warm and efficient.  So now, I'm debating on whether or not I should carry the 3 man tent. If I 86 the tent the air matress goes too because it wouldn't fit in the four season tent. But I guess I think of the 3 person tent as a sort of guest room in case a friend or one of my kids randomly joins me. The way I travel, this is not out of the ordinary. I think I just answered my own question, but remarks from the peanut gallery are still appreciated.

Is two too many tents?

 I wanted the flexibility to zip-up and wrap-up with a rain-fly for winters in the South, but also have mesh netting for warmer temps when Souther winters just aren’t that wintery. This may be the only 4-season/flex season tent that could play in summer and winter. The addition of mesh net is what sold me. Not scientific, but it seemed to keep it about 20-degrees warmer than outside temps even when fully vented

Maybe the perfect tent? I need a “cold” weather, four-season-ish tent. I’m not going above tree line in winter any time soon, nor will I ever summer camp in Texas.  After being set up for two days, you can see that the floor of the tent is bone dry. So it really helps to have this deep basin. What I really like about this tent though, is the amount of storage it has. It has gear pockets in every corner, as well as a nice big one up above and hooks
