For over $170 less than the top-rated Copper Spur, the Half Dome SL offers a bump in durability, and its generous dimensions (4 in. longer and wider than the Big Agnes) make it a very roomy tent for two. REI’s Passage above is a function-first tent that will save you a lot of cash, but their mid-range Half Dome SL 2+ is the more well-rounded design. I was also looking for something to fit two people, but not two people, my size, and I was looking for something that, if I wanted to, I could put an extra thick mattress pattern and this tent checked all those boxes. We'Re also gon na take a look and see if it's big enough for two people or just big enough for you and your gear. REI Quarter Dome SL 2 Review (Tent)

My 10 year old is a Boy Scout and his patrol goes on monthly camp outs. The scouts must put up and take down their own tents by themselves each trip. I bought him a Coleman pop up tent, which is super easy to put up, but it requires adult strength to fold up and he can’t do it by himself.  It’s even difficult for me and other adults to get it folded up. The scout leaders insist we get him something he can manage completely on his own. 

Any recommendations on a simpler tent that a kid can manage?  Thanks.

Looking for a tent my 10 year old can put up and take down by himself

 Not only is it less than $ 250, but it's also just a great all-around tent. A version of this tent many years ago was my first set my yeah, it's just it's a really great backpacking tent. It does weigh about 5 pounds, 5 ounces or 4 pounds. 15 ounces minimum trail weight um, but it's also really good for car camping

 Ounces minimum trail weight, but that does include the footprint also since you're probably going to be going with a group of people, you can always divide up the fly and the body and the poles of the tent to divide weight. That way, it sounds pretty easy to set up too so we've got an orange hub pole and the orange pole goes to these orange tabs over here and then. We'Ve also got a pair of grey poles, which will go with the grey tabs up here and that will create the vertical walls and keep everything nice and far away from you, yeah there's a ton of interior volume in this tent, which makes it feel really livable. You also have two door entry and two large vestibules

 These vestibules are, I mean, they're massive, a ton of cupboard space on the outside of the tent if you're backpacking with three other people, you're, probably gon na - want that for storing your extra gear and our next category is gon na, be the best tent under $ 250, which is going to be the REI co-op Half Dome 2 plus. So I really feel like the REI. Co-Op. Half Dome 2 plus deserves a ton of credit

 Our first category is the best backpacking tent for solo backpacking, and for that we've chosen the REI co-op quarter, dome sl1, so in choosing the best tent for solo backpacking, we knew we were looking for something that was relatively light. We also wanted a lot of interior volume or interior space in the tent, since we knew we weren't going to go with a bivy. So if you're gon na go with the 10th, we wanted that added room. So this tent is pretty easy to set up

 So I'm gon na use those instead right. The tent doesn't come with a footprint and you got ta buy the separate and it's footprint. It was $ 35 about 28 pounds and the tent itself was $ 229 hundred eighty-two pounds. So it's all the cost for the tent and footprint it's 210 pound

 You'Ve got one heard there one day. The other thing I'm not too keen about this you're pretty bulky. So when it's in the bag, it didn't fall. Gon na be flat, so that's when they're things, true with nobody happy with, but you see what it's like when it's up there's the pegs, you get a skewer type, aluminium pegs

I'm looking for some camping gear that I would take with me on some kayaking/canoeing trips.  I'm pretty good on my yak but not terribly experienced with camping and never really with my own gear.  I'm not looking to do anything too extreme, I mostly do flat water stuff.  Just like to row and wonder.    


I'm really looking for something that handles water better than average, though I realize I probably need to get a big drybox/case for it, would prefer ability to pack in smaller area over weight.  Might even prefer something a little heavier, but I don't really know much here.  I'm also tall and would prefer a 2person tent.  I feel like that's asking a lot to all find in one tent, but I'm not quite sure where to start.  I've read a few reviews, but they all seem pretty paid content-y and not sure what to trust.  Price wise, I'm probably looking 200-450.

SINGLE/BEGINNER CAMPER

Works great as a single person as well and has everything I’d look for in a 2 person backpacking tent without dropping a bunch of dough. 2. If you need tent space for 5-6 people, is it generally better to get 1 6-person tent, 3 two-person tents, or 6 one-person tents? (Assuming you are going to carry the tents in/on your backpacks while hiking)
