Onyx Boox Max Lumi

* No handwriting recognition, no copy and paste (like RM2), no OCR (except for the stars). * Bad battery life. They claim that the device can run for three weeks without wifi/bluetooth, but with my heavy writing, I need to charge the device AND the pen (yes, one needs to charge the pen) every four, five days or so. With wifi on, the tablet drains very quickly.

For a long time I wanted to have an electronic ink device that had Android and could be used as a monitor. Traditional LCDs with LEDs give me sensitivity like most of you, while in the basic Kindle I have (the most recent) I do not have any discomfort and I can spend hours and hours reading with it. So I decided to buy the Onyx Boox Lumi. I have had it for days and it has quite good qualities.

I've ended up with half a dozen e-ink tablets/readers of various sizes and use them as much as possible. I actually really enjoy surfing the web on my Boox Max Lumi. I do most of my casual surfing on it now. The refresh speed and ghosting don't bother me either, similar to what you said it just helps me go at what I consider a more healthy pace.

That being said, they don’t do great with PDFs (ePubs etc are great on smaller devices) and you’d really need a larger device (at least 10”), depending on the original size of the page of the document. If you’d like to continue using moon+reader or using android, you have options like the Boox Note Air or Boox Note 3 or Boox Max Lumi, also the Boyue Likebook P10 or Likebook Mimas.

Based on previous experiences, I prioritised size and storage size, and bought the Onyx BOOX Max Lumi, a 13.3" Android-based ebook reader. I was concerned it would be _too_ big but it's ultimately a very appropriate size for me. I could easily see stepping down to a 10" device, and possibly 8" if I were strictly reading text-dominant books (few illustrations or figures). Onyx produces a number of similar products from about 6" on up in size.
